We have to play out of our skins: Cook

Jan 10 2013, 9:28am CST | by

Rajkot, Jan 10 (IANS) England skipper Alastair Cook Thursday said that his boys have to play put of their skins to win the five-match ODI series against India that starts Friday with the first game at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium here in Kandheri.

Rajkot, Jan 10 — England skipper Alastair Cook Thursday said that his boys have to play put of their skins to win the five-match ODI series against India that starts Friday with the first game at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium here in Kandheri.

"Clearly we are the underdogs in this series but if you look through our side we have got a lot of firepower and world class players. For us to win this series, those world class players and everyone in our squad have to play out of skin," said Cook.

The England skipper said the team was short on experience due to injuries.

"We have got an inexperienced side, a few experienced players missing through injuries and rotational policy. It's quite similar to probably the squad that we had last time.

"So, it will be a real big test to us as players and real good test to these guys who have been around now a bit in international scene to try and step up," he said.

As the visitors lost both their warm-up games to India 'A' and Delhi, Cook said it wasn't the ideal start to the series.

"Yeah, I know it's not an ideal start. I missed the first game and in the second game, it was apparent that we improved from the last game. I didn't see the first game and second game I think we improved a lot," said Cook.

The England captain feels that his side will have do something that no English side has done in the past to win the ODI series.

"For us to win, I think, it showed the challenge we are going to have in our hands. Our skill levels will need to improve a lot. Yeah, it's going to be hell of a challenge like the Test series in a way. We have to do something that no English has done for a while," he said.

England vs. India, 3rd Test: Day 4 Highlights, Scorecard, Report

Jul 30 2014 12:36pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

England took a huge stride towards a series-levelling victory, reducing India to 112-4 in pursuit of their total of 445 by stumps on Day 4 at the Ageas Bowl. India managed to add just seven runs to their overnight score before they were bowled out for 330. England declined to enforce the follow-on but batted instead, adding 205 runs in just over 40 overs before declaring just before the tea break. India made a decent start as they set about negotiating the four remaining sessi ...

England Must Accept Only A Win Now Good Enough vs. India in 3rd Test

Jul 29 2014 3:02pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

There are only so many times a side can "take the positives" from a promising, if ultimately unsuccessful performance. There comes a time when you just have to win. For England, that time is now, with India 246 runs behind with just two first-innings wickets remaining in the third Test at the Ageas Bowl. Just as winning can become a habit, so can forgetting how to get over the line. Alastair Cook's side have been guilty of squandering a number of opportunities ...

Where Have India Gone Wrong from Winning at Lord's to the 3rd Test vs. England?

Jul 29 2014 2:55pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

If Day 2 was not convincing enough, England left no doubts that they have total control of the third Test against India at the end of Day 3, with the visitors reeling at 323 for eight, a further 47 runs required to only avoid the follow-on. Avoiding the follow-on would be a huge victory in itself for the Indians given their shambolic performance over the last three days—an almost unbelievable reversal in every possible aspect from their showing in the second Test at Lord' ...

England vs. India, 3rd Test: Day 3 Highlights, Scorecard, Report

Jul 29 2014 12:43pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

India are in danger of being made to follow-on in the third Test after England made steady inroads on Day 3 at the Rose Bowl. The tourists, who lead the five-match series 1-0, finished the day on 323-8 in reply to England's first innings total of 569-7 declared. India need 47 more runs to avoid the possibility of being asked to bat again by home captain Alastair Cook. They started the day in Hampshire on 25-1, and Stuart Broad picked up two wickets ...
