The exclusive interview with Te'o and his parents, Brian and Ottlia Te'o, will be aired on Couric's syndicated daytime talk show “Katie,” one Thursday, January 24. This will be the first time that the football star and his family will speak out about the hoax.

Te'o, a Heisman-Trophy runner-up this season, claims he was fooled into believing that his online girlfriend had died last year. The hoax was revealed when it was learned that the woman never existed.

Last week, in an interview with ESPN's Jeremy Schaap, Te'o admitted that he made a few mistakes, including telling his father that he met “Lennay Kekua” in Hawaii even though he attempted meet never happen. Later published accounts revealed inconsistencies in media reports that resulted in Te'o admitting he'd never actually met the woman in person.

As a result of conflicting versions of the story, some have questioned whether the football player was the victim of a hoax or admit the story himself for publicity purposes. Te'o said he was afraid people would think he was crazy to conduct a telephone and online relationship with a woman he never physically met. He has admitted tailoring “my story is that people think that, yeah, he met her before she passed away.”

Couric will preview exclusive content and their own original reporting across ABC News platforms that include “Good Morning America,” “World News,” “Nightime,” “ABCNews.com and ABC News Radio.
