Major league ballplayers may be involved in doping

Jan 29 2013, 1:52pm CST | by

More allegations of doping by major league baseball players have surfaced involving Bosch Biogenesis, in Florida. Alex Rodriguez, who is mentioned in documents, denies allegations of using performance-enhancing-drugs.

MIAMI, Fla. – A Florida man, according to the Miami New Times, has been linked to supplying performance enhancing drugs to a number of major league ballplayers.

A self-proclaimed biochemist, Anthony Bosch, who reportedly is known in Latin-American baseball circles, distributed synthetic testosterone and human growth hormones to a number of players – among them Texas Rangers outfielder, Nelson Cruz.

Allegedly, outfielder Melky Cabera, pitcher Batolo Colon and catcher Yasmani Grandal were clients of Bosch. They were previously suspended from league play.

A former employee of Bosch Biogenesis clinic supplied the New Times with records alleging that Alex Rodriguez used HGH, testosterone cream and insulin-like growth factor, all of which are banned by MLB policy. Rodriquez denies the allegations.

As a result of various doping allegations, the MLB and the player's association have strengthened its performance-enhancing-drugs policies. The new measures include random blood testing for HGH and a more definitive test for synthetic forms of testosterone.

Alfonso Soriano retires from baseball

Nov 4 2014 9:25pm CST | Source: SBNation

Soriano never lived up to the huge contract he signed with the Cubs prior to the 2007 season, but when he was at his peak, few players matched his combination of speed and power. Alfonso Soriano announced his retirement from baseball in a radio interview with Hector Gomez of Z101 in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday. Soriano, 38, spent 16 seasons with the Yankees, Rangers, Nationals and Cubs, hitting .270/.319/.500 with 412 home runs ...

Yankees Unlikely To Pursue Top Starters, Sandoval

Nov 4 2014 8:47am CST | Source: MLB Trade Rumors

While many have been quick to connect the Yankees to the top names on the market, as is the case in most offseasons, Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News hear that the team has no intention to pursue any of the “Big Three” starting pitchers — Max Scherzer, Jon Lester and James Shields — or top third baseman Pablo Sandoval. Instead, the Daily News duo continues, the Yankees are more focused on bringing back a pair of their own free agents: Chase Headley and Bran ...

2014 MLB Free Agents: Rumors and Predictions at Start of Signing Period

Nov 4 2014 8:00am CST | Source: Bleacher Report

Now that MLB teams are free to negotiate and sign free agents, the period of pure speculation is over.  Tuesday marks the first official day of free agency, a long process where patience ultimately pays off. Due to qualifying offers, which players must accept or decline this week, a few mid-level players found themselves in purgatory last offseason, waiting as long as past Opening Day to sign for teams reticent to for ...

East Notes: A-Rod, Sandoval, Petit, Rays

Oct 26 2014 10:34am CDT | Source: MLB Trade Rumors

Alex Rodriguez is gearing up to re-join the Yankees in 2015 and Joel Sherman of the New York Post thinks the embattled slugger should take a lesson from Manny Ramirez.  Ramirez hurt his reputation with his own PED troubles but has carved out a second act for himself as a player/coach for the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate.  Still, Sherman is skeptical that A-Rod can earn redemption like Manny has.  Here’s more from the AL and ...

2015 Fantasy Dynasty Shortstop Rankings

Oct 24 2014 4:35am CDT | Source: Yardbarker: MLB

As rough as second base is offensively, shortstop might be even worse. The top options at the position are still relatively sexy, but they all come with their own drawbacks. After the top five you get into players with low upside or prospects that haven’t yet played in any meaningful games. As dynasty owners we get to witness players grow and mature while he follow them, sometimes for an entire career. Positions have ebbs and flows like all things in life, and I t ...
