Aligarh, Feb 6 (IANS) The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) lawn tennis team has won the finals of the All India Inter University Tennis Tournament defeating Madras University 3-1.

Aligarh, Feb 6 — The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) lawn tennis team has won the finals of the All India Inter University Tennis Tournament defeating Madras University 3-1.

The finals were held late Tuesday at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Punjab.

Secretary of AMU Games Committee Prof. Tariq Mansoor said AMU won this championship after 39 years. It last won the finals in 1973-74.

Earlier, the AMU lawn tennis team won the North Zone Inter-varsity Tennis (Men) Tournament by defeating Delhi University 4-1 at Dr. B.R.A. N.I.T. Jalandhar. The AMU team comprised Chandril Sood, Lakshit Sood, Saim Farooqui, Mohammad Nasir and S. Fawad Ahmad Naqvi (captain).

The AMU cricket and badminton teams have also won the North Zone Inter-University Cricket and Badminton Championships.
