Repeating as Champs Will Be San Antonio Spurs' Biggest Hurdle Yet

Aug 27 2014 7:27pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

"Just the close of a career. I know it's coming to an end," San Antonio Spurs icon Tim Duncan told reporters after claiming his fifth title in June. "Don't know if I'll ever have a chance to do this again." Now that Duncan has committed to at least one more season with the franchise that drafted him in 1997, it appears he'll indeed have the chance to win back-to-back championships, which would be the first time in Spurs history. The question is wheth ...

Predicting the Biggest Changes We'll See from the Warriors Next Season

Aug 27 2014 3:48am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Golden State Warriors entered the offseason looking to make a big splash, and while they didn’t necessarily make the biggest one, they made enough waves to stay in contention in the brutal Western Conference. Change is on the horizon, however, and as the last two seasons have proved, changes are necessary. Fans will no longer be content with 50-win seasons and merely making the playoffs after such a long stretch of drudgery. A new bar has been set, and it will be up to ...

FIBA World Cup 2014: Breaking Down Team USA's Toughest Challengers

Aug 26 2014 9:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

As typical for any international basketball tournament, the United States enters the 2014 FIBA World Cup as the favorites. Armed with a deep roster loaded with NBA superstars, Team USA looks poised to successfully defend its title, but the path to first place isn't a cakewalk. It's not the only nation featuring NBA stalwarts, so conquering the world on the hardwood is far from a certainty. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul will not suit up in Spain, whic ...

New Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has always been the ambitious type, and his foray into professional basketball promises to be no different. According to the Los Angeles Times' Everett Cook, he was recently asked by a long-time ticket holder how the next 26 seasons would differ from the last 26. Flip Saunders, Minnesota Timberwolves Ace First Test in Post-Kevin Love Era

Aug 25 2014 12:13pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Kevin Love gave Minnesota Timberwolves president-coach Flip Saunders no choice. After unofficially officially demanding a trade at the start of this summer, Love made a few things clear: He needed to be moved sooner than later, and he had to sign off on the destination. Nothing about the situation was unique. Love was following the footsteps left by stranded small-market stars before him, and the Wolves scoured the NBA landscape for the be ...

NBA Rumors: Examining Whether Rajon Rondo Should Be Next Star on Trade Block

Aug 25 2014 10:15am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

With the Kevin Love trade having gone from painstaking whirlwind of inevitability to completion over the weekend, there is a strange sense of emptiness floating around the NBA.  For the first time this decade, the superstar trade market seems dead. In the past five offseasons, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Love—all rightfully considered among the dozen best players in the league—have been traded. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, although on their last legs, w ...

NBA Rumors: Latest on Eric Bledsoe, Amar'e Stoudemire and More Buzz

Aug 23 2014 2:59pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

When an offseason features a move by a player the caliber of LeBron James, everything else that occurs seems small by comparison. That said, general managers around the league are still busy trying to tie up the odds and ends. The Cleveland Cavaliers moved into title contention by welcoming James home. The reigning champion San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls are also in the mix. But there are plenty of question marks beyond ...
