McLaren receive FIA award for environmental excellence

Feb 15 2013, 6:18am CST | by

Woking (Surrey), Feb 15 (IANS) McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team has become first motor sport stakeholder in the world to receive the FIA Institute's Environmental Award.

Woking (Surrey), Feb 15 — McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team has become first motor sport stakeholder in the world to receive the FIA Institute's Environmental Award.

The award is part of a broader initiative between the FIA, the world body of motorsports, and the FIA Institute aimed at evaluating and reducing the environmental impact of motor sport.

It is also the highest level attainable within the FIA Institute Sustainability Programme, which helps motor sport stakeholders to measure, improve and be recognised for their environmental performance.

Organisations that sign up are rated against three levels of environmental performance, so measuring their achievement and providing a benchmark against which to improve.

Shortly after the scheme was announced, in June 2012, McLaren applied for accreditation and underwent a series of stringent assessments set out by FIA Institute environmental experts. The F1 team achieved the highest level through demonstrating a commitment to continual improvement and impressive environmental awareness throughout the entire organisation.

FIA president Jean Todt said: "McLaren's award is an important step in the recognition by motor sport of the social responsibility our community must acknowledge if our championships are to remain in tune with the key environmental debates we are all a part of. The FIA and the FIA Institute are researching the environmental impact of motor sports across all our world championships."

Tail Light Solutions That Don't Look Like Dookie

Aug 28 2014 10:20pm CDT | Source: Bike Forums

With the days getting shorter as Fall approaches, I've been looking for a new tail light for the bikes I bought this past year. However, my brain has this issue with pretty much every tail light I've looked at: They aren't very aesthetically pleasing when it's not dark out. :notamused: I know, I know... most of you are probably already thinking, "Who cares?!?!" Well, it's my thought that as a roadie, we spend a ton of money on beautifully sc ...

Bike for sister (left Hemiparesis)

Aug 24 2014 6:19pm CDT | Source: Bike Forums

My sister is 16 (as am I), and she used to have this bike which she loved. It was a small recumbent built especially for kids with special needs. Sadly, she outgrew it and has not been able to bike in a while. Recently she expressed an interest in maybe biking again. There are a few possible issues. First, she has left hemiparesis, so she cannot control her left side very well (her left arm is usually cramped and she has limited motion in it, and she can move her ...

moral dilemma ... or not?

Aug 23 2014 8:18am CDT | Source: Bike Forums

The major city next to us, 's-Hertogenbosch, has the carnival in its center this week; the city is busier than normal. My wife and I biked to the center to do some shopping today and we parked our bikes in a busy area but is a quiet part of that busy area. As I go to park my bike I see a bike next to me that is chained to a tree but still has the keys in the ring lock. Having used a ring lock for 20 years, that's most unusual. Typically you would keep all ...
