Sep 29 2014 4:23pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

INDEPENDENCE, OHIO — There are many ways to assist a basketball team or organization, other than a pinpoint pass. Kyrie Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers' on-court assist leader the past three seasons, did so with a pen stroke.   LeBron James made that plain again as the Cavs opened training camp, as he acknowledged that, while "95 percent" of his decision to return was rooted in his deep connection to Northeast Ohio, it ...

Sep 29 2014 11:48am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Boris Diaw is France’s greatest gift to the American people since the Statue of Liberty. This is a fact. With all due respect to his superstar teammate Tony Parker, Diaw is a national treasure of inestimable value. He threads passes, initiates “God Mode” and woos floating bachelorette parties, all while maintaining the figure of a particularly nimble narwhal. Like the baller-cum-bon vivant he is, Diaw is passing the final stretch ...

Sep 29 2014 11:30am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

However, nobody knew this shot was in his arsenal. Before the Magic's media day kicked off Monday, Oladipo drilled a backward, no-look, underhand shot—from half court. That's a shot most people couldn't make from the free-throw line, much less from 30-plus feet away. Oladipo's attempt may have been inspired by Tony Parker, as the San Antonio Spurs ...

Top 50: Monta Ellis, no. 48

Sep 23 2014 2:00pm CDT | Source: slamonline

It happened near the end of Iverson’s Sixers’ days. The Zeke era at the Garden—Marbury and Stevie Francis as the new Frazier and Monroe—made sure the death knoll rang a bit louder. After years of public celebration and ownership of the vogue, the hybrid guard—6-4 and under, high usage rate aka ball dominant, high volume shooter, score first, gravitational center of the team—was determined to be a fals ...

That and much, much more in Monday's NBA newsletter. Good morning. Let's basketball.
