Hong Kong, Feb 27 — Chinese tennis icon Li Na will miss next month's exhibition match in Hong Kong after her ankle injury failed to respond well enough to treatment, organisers announced here Wednesday.

The 31-year-old Chinese sprained her left ankle in last month's Australian Open final twice and lost to defending champion Victoria Azarenka in three sets, Xinhua reports.

The world's NO.5 also withdrew from the Qatar Open. She was scheduled to face Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki at the BNP Paribas Showdown here March 4.

"Unfortunately, my ankle is still not ready for me to compete," said Li. "I knew I have lots of fans in Hong Kong and I was looking forward to playing for them. I promise I will be back next year."

World's number four Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland will take Li's place in the event.

Jul 15 2014 10:00pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Championships - Wimbledon 2014: Previews
Roger Federer and Serena Williams have 17 Grand Slam titles each. Federer has earned more prize money than anyone in the history of tennis. Williams has earned more prize money than any woman in the history of sports. They have two other things in common. Both are 32, and each finished Wimbledon in tears. It's tough to win a Slam after 30. Each year the body grows more weary, and the age gap between opponents widens. Meanwhile, the competition creeps closer.  Federer, Williams and L ...

What Serena Williams Needs to Do to Get on Track for a Strong Finish in 2014

Jul 10 2014 10:19pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Championships - Wimbledon 2014: Previews
Serena Williams' tumultuous season can be turned around with a win at the U.S. Open. Getting in position to pull that off will require Williams to take a different approach from the one she took in 2013. Last year, Williams stormed through tournaments on her way to a record-breaking season. She went 78-4 and won 11 titles, including the French Open and U.S. Open. She racked up a record $12.4 million in prize money and became the oldest woman to ever hold the No. 1 ranking. Ye ...

Will Serena Williams Win Another Grand Slam Title in Her Career?

Jun 16 2014 10:40pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Margaret Court Arena Media Opportunity
Will Serena Williams win another Grand Slam? A few months ago, that question would have been considered absurd. Williams, winner of 17 Slams, completed a record-setting year in 2013. She went 78-4, won 11 titles, grabbed the No. 1 ranking and won two Grand Slams. Matching Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert with 18 Slams seemed inevitable. Talk surfaced about her reaching Steffi Graf's 22. Graf told the Associated Press t ...

Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2014
After another amazing edition of the French Open on the clay of Roland Garros, the focus now shifts to the grass courts of Wimbledon and the 2014 championship draw. On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal is coming off yet another French Open victory, but all hope is not lost for the other competitors. Despite being a nine-time champion at Roland Garros, Nadal has only gone on to win Wimbledon twice. That glimmer of hope is all big names like Novak Djokovic, ...

French Open 2014: Predicting Players Who Will Rebound at Wimbledon

Jun 9 2014 8:19pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

General View Of Pop Up Shop 'Sugarpova' By Maria Sharapova
For Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova, the 2014 French Open went swimmingly. Both secured their perch atop the clay throne on the men's and women's sides, with Nadal retaining his title as the "King of Clay." As for every other player, the tournament ended in disappointment with a loss in Roland Garros. Even for Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep, both of whom made it to the final, leaving Paris without the crown was heartbreaking. Things were so bad for Djokovic that he didn ...
