Italy not arrogant, says Juve star

Jun 13 2013, 2:20am CDT | by

Rio de Janeiro, June 13 (IANS) Defender Giorgio Chiellini has denied claims that Italy has been afflicted by arrogance as they prepare for their Confederations Cup debut against Mexico, Sunday.

Rio de Janeiro, June 13 — Defender Giorgio Chiellini has denied claims that Italy has been afflicted by arrogance as they prepare for their Confederations Cup debut against Mexico, Sunday.

Veteran Azzurri goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon had accused his teammates of having an "ounce of superficiality and arrogance" during the match against Caribbean minnows Haiti, reports Xinhua.

Buffon made the suggestion following Italy's shock 2-2 friendly draw with Haiti in Rio de Janeiro, Tuesday.

"Buffon is our captain and leader. We respect everything he says but maybe he made those comments in the heat of the moment," Buffon's Juventus teammate Chiellini said on Wednesday.

"We know what we are capable of and we have complete confidence in our team. It's our job now to make sure that we recover and are ready for Sunday's match."

Italy's clash at the Maracana stadium Sunday will be followed by duels against Japan June 19 and hosts Brazil three days later. The top two teams from each group will play off for a place in the final June 30.

Perin: Genoa secured major draw over Fiorentina

Sep 14 2014 12:27pm CDT | Source: forzitalianfootball

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin believes the Rossoblu’s goalless draw with Fiorentina on Sunday was a positive result for his team. The 21-year-old put in a huge performance for the Grifone against the Viola in Florence and was able to keep the home side from scoring any goals with some important saves, though he feels all of coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s men played a good game and refuses to take full credit for the earned point. Perin spoke to the press aft ...

Napoli vs. Chievo Verona: Final score 0-1, Flying Donkeys stun at San Paolo

Sep 14 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: SBNation

It was a goal from Maxi Lopez that ultimately sunk Napoli, but without the fine work of goalkeeper Francesco Bardi, including his penalty save on Gonzalo Higuaín, this likely would've been a very different result. Chievo may have looked out of their depth against Juventus last round, but this weekend they've pulled off a stunning upset, defeating scudetto-hopefuls Napoli on their own turf. Maxi López scored the goal but it was Francesco Bardi that played the ...

Italy took on Norway in Oslo in their first Euro 2016 qualification match and came out 2-0 winners, their first victory in Norway for over 70 years.
