CIMB Classic to be held at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club

Jun 13 2013, 5:54am CDT | by

Kuala Lumpur, June 13 (IANS) CIMB Group announced Thursday that the CIMB Classic, the first official PGA Tour FedExCup event in Asia, will move to the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).

Kuala Lumpur, June 13 — CIMB Group announced Thursday that the CIMB Classic, the first official PGA Tour FedExCup event in Asia, will move to the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).

The announcement comes as Phil Mickelson -- winner of 41 PGA Tour events including four majors -- and the event's three past champions Ben Crane, Bo Van Pelt and 2012 winner Nick Watney, all confirmed to play in the tournament Oct 24-27.

The tourney is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour with the top-10 players from the Order of Merit qualifying for the prestigious event.

"This year CIMB Classic makes its debut as a full-fledged PGA Tour FedExCup event with an increased field and a new venue. KLGCC is a venue that will give us the scale we need to take it to the next level," said Dato' Sri Nazir Razak, CIMB Group's chief executive.

"The Mines Resort is a world-class facility and has been a great partner over last three years. We extend our greatest thanks and appreciation to their management and staff for all the effort in getting us to where we are today.

"We are delighted to have our past champions Ben, Bo and Nick back and we look forward to seeing Phil tee off in Malaysia for the first time," he added.

KLGCC is situated just eight kilometres away from the city. Originally opened in 1991, the West and East Courses were completely redesigned by renowned golf course architects E and G Parslow and re-opened in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

The course also serves as the host of the European Tour and Asian Tour's co-sanctioned Malaysian Open for the past four years, as well as the LPGA Malaysia for the past three.

Players will compete for an increased prize money of $7 million as compared to $6.1 million the year before. The tournament will feature 78 players, with 60 coming from the PGA Tour, 10 from the Asian Tour and eight sponsor's exemptions, including two Malaysians.

The winner of this competition will also gain a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

Talking counterbalancing with Steve Boccieri and Tom Stickney

Sep 5 2014 11:05am CDT | Source: GolfWRX

Could counterbalancing be the next technology major OEMs market? Steve Boccieri of Boccieri Golf thinks so. “The next frontier is counterbalancing,” he boldly declared. Boccieri, the inventor of the Heavy Putter a decade ago, admittedly has a vested interest in the resurgence counterbalancing taking over the market. His company recently released the Secret Grip: a (nearly) standard grip with a weight in the butt end. The Secret Grip, at 92 grams, is about 40 grams heavier than a tr ...

The Barclays 2014 tee times, pairings for Saturday's third round at Ridgewood

Aug 23 2014 6:13am CDT | Source: SBNation

Adam Scott, the defending champion at the Barclays, is back on top of the leaderboard and he'll anchor the tee sheet with Cameron Tringale for Saturday's third round at Ridgewood. The groups outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings will have a a little more elbow room on the weekend after the field was cut down to 79 golfers at the 2014 Barclays. The bottom 25 of the 125 in the playoffs do not get to make the trip to Boston next week for ...

McIlroy bounces back with 65 at Barclays

Aug 22 2014 1:54pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

PARAMUS, N.J. — Brendon Todd is keeping his name on the leaderboard at The Barclays and in the conversation as a Ryder Cup pick. Todd, who won his first PGA Tour event earlier this year at the Byron Nelson Championship, made birdie on his last hole Friday for a 2-under 69 to share the early 36-hole lead with Jim Furyk and Kevin Chappell. Furyk had a 69 and Chappell played bogey-free for a 67 to join Todd at 7-under 135. British Open and PGA champion Rory McIlroy played in the a ...

Rory McIlroy catches FedEx Cup fever; opens with 74 at The Barclays

Aug 22 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: SBNation

Rory McIlroy parties hardy ahead of The Barclays as lack of practice catches up with the world No. 1, who’s coming off three straight victories that include two major titles. How excited was Rory McIlroy for the FedEx Cup playoffs to begin on Thursday? So tingly about the prospect of The Barclays — the first of four pressure-packed (heh) playoff games that kicked off on Thursday — was the world No. 1 that he worked his butt off hitting Jimmy Fallon in ...

The Barclays 2014 live stream: How to watch online, TV coverage and more

Aug 22 2014 6:30am CDT | Source: SBNation

After a thin field during the TV coverage of the first round, Friday's broadcast will be loaded with the top stars in the game playing late in the afternoon at Ridgewood Country Club. It will be a Friday afternoon in late August, so you're probably not inclined to spend it in front of TV or computer. But the afternoon wave for the second round of the Barclays is absolutely loaded. It's one of the more uneven tee sheets I've seen on the PGA Tour this ye ...

McIlroy stumbles, Van Pelt leads at Barclays

Aug 21 2014 5:58pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

PARAMUS, N.J. — Rory McIlroy took a week to celebrate his blockbuster summer and paid for it in The Barclays with his worst start in two months. He could afford a day off. That wasn’t the case for players like Bo Van Pelt and Paul Casey, and they picked a good time to produce good scores. With no guarantee of playing beyond this week, Van Pelt opened with three straight birdies Thursday and chipped in for eagle la ...
