NBA: Players Say Jason Kidd Will Succeed as Nets Coach

New Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd's NBA colleagues say he'll succeed in his new role.

New Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd's NBA colleagues say he'll succeed in his new role.

A June 15 report from the Associated Press notes former teammates, players and coaches think Kidd has the credibility to thrive as an NBA head coach. One longtime assistant coach, Brendan Suhr says Kidd's pedigree should resonate well with the Nets players.

"He's going to have incredible credibility with his players, which is huge.

"He'll be fine. He's handled accountability before."

Suhr added that one of Kidd's main priorities needs to be hiring experienced assistants to "fill in the gaps that you don't have."

Denver Nuggets point guard Andre Miller says Kidd's accomplishments during his esteemed NBA career should earn the respect of everyone.

"When I first heard they were considering it, I was like, 'Wow, that's respect.' He's a hall of famer in everybody's mind and he's accomplished everything that you can accomplish as a point guard, as a person, in life and as a teammate. When you have that type of respect of your peers, and of management, coaches, you know the sky's the limit."

Miller's teammate, Andre Iguodala wasn't surprised at all with Kidd's hiring.

"Why not bring in a coach who just got done playing, especially a guy like Jason Kidd who has helped teammates get better throughout his career. It wasn't just by his presence on the court but his presence every day, his presence off the court, in practice, making guys buy into something they weren't used to buckling down and doing, so I'm not surprised at all."

Renowned names all around the NBA sounded off on social media following Kidd's hire. The Nets' point guard, Deron Williams, expressed excitement to work with a great basketball mind via Twitter.

"Excited to get to work under our new head coach @RealJasonKidd great leader and great basketball mind will be a great head coach #BROOKLYN."

The Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant tweeted Kidd will do unbelievable things as Nets head coach.

"Congrats to Jason Kidd on his new head coaching job...hes a great leader that is going to do unbelievable things in Brooklyn"

The Los Angeles Lakers' Metta World Peace says the new Nets coach will be a complete one and even believes will guide Brooklyn to the NBA Finals next season.

"Wow. Jason Kids going to finals next year. He is going to be a complete coach. He should coach in a nets uniform. So he can sub in."

Even prior to Kidd's hiring, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich believes Kidd has the intuitive skills to establish a relationship with his players.

"But he certainly has the intuitive skills to know what's going on out there. Obviously,he would be able to have relationships with the players that he's had with his coaches throughout."

The 40-year-old Kidd retired from active NBA play just a few weeks ago and was hired by the Nets on June 12 to be their next head coach. He was reported by ESPN New York to have signed a three-year deal.

Eric Bledsoe still unsigned as training camp nears

Sep 19 2014 3:46pm CDT | Source: SBNation

The 24-year-old was one of the biggest stars on a 48-win Phoenix team last season, but he and the Suns have been unable to agree on a new contract and thus his future in Arizona is in doubt. The Milwaukee Bucks are preparing to offer a contract to Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Bledsoe is a restricted free agent, so the Suns will have the right to match any contract. Bledsoe broke o ...

Breaking Down Milwaukee Bucks' Small Forward Position for 2014-15 Season

Sep 18 2014 7:49pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

While there are certainly positional debates to be had elsewhere on the roster, the scenario at small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks—given the logjam and abundance of talent—provides an intriguing one for the 2014-15 season. Rookie Jabari Parker and second-year phenom Giannis Antetokounmpo are arguably the team's two biggest talents, and both are most suited to play the 3. Meanwhile, Khris Middleton is coming off a solid 2013-14 year that saw him provide the Bucks with ...

These Milwaukee Bucks Are City's Last, Best Chance for Keeping NBA Team

Sep 18 2014 1:12pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Flush with fresh-faced phenoms like Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo and marshaled by league legend Jason Kidd, the Milwaukee Bucks are nothing if not a team on the rise. Sadly, time is not on Milwaukee's side, making this generation of players—young, hungry and tantalizingly talented—perhaps the city’s last, best hope of remaining in the NBA fold. Six years have passed since Clay Bennett first uproot ...

Is the Honeymoon over for Brooklyn Nets?

Sep 4 2014 12:33pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

From the timing to the talent, the branding to the borough, everything about the Brooklyn Nets’ 2012 move from New Jersey to Atlantic Avenue seemed tailor-made for sustainable success. But after sinking an NBA record $186 million into a team with but a single playoff series to its credit, the Nets’ shaky near-future prospects can’t help but make one wonder whether the honeymoon magic might be over in Brooklyn. Short of veteran minimum contracts, the Nets—with $ ...

Dame Time

Sep 4 2014 11:55am CDT | Source: slamonline

Damian Lillard’s stoic manner allows for no tells. “This must be from ’96. What is this, a 3X?” Movement ensues and wonderment begins. Is he serious? Does he need another shirt? Is he upset? It’s hard to read Damian Lillard. It’s clear that he isn’t happy with the fit of the tank top he’s been given for an upcoming camera interview—too baggy for the Kanye era. People tug at his shirt from behind, attempting to tighten the fit at all angles. Suddenly, Dame breaks character with a smile. ...

Milwaukee Bucks: Why Adding Jared Dudley Could Be Signs of a Bigger Deal to Come

Sep 2 2014 5:44pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Milwaukee Bucks have had a newsworthy offseason. And for the first time in more than a decade, it isn't a negative. Historically, under the hard-headed leadership of former owner Herb Kohl, the Bucks would hire and fire coaches seemingly each year, re-sign players who were undeserving of the millions thrown at them and destroy any chance at a future with free-agent signings of mid-level players to inflated contracts ...

Is Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker a Bigger Threat for Rookie of the Year?

Aug 28 2014 1:16pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

They're both set up nicely. Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker have to be considered front-runners for Rookie of the Year honors in 2015, and not just because they were the top-two picks in the draft.  Wiggins and Parker are each in prime position, based on their teams' rosters and rebuilding stages, to put up big numbers next season. And let's face it—big numbers and stats hold the most value in the voting.  Assuming Wiggins will b ...

Larry Drew 'blindsided' by firing from Milwaukee Bucks

Aug 26 2014 9:42am CDT | Source: SBNation

The former Bucks coach admitted he wasn't happy with the manner in which the team's new owners replaced him with Jason Kidd. Two months ago, the Milwaukee Bucks awkwardly left incumbent coach Larry Drew twisting in the wind as they courted and eventually hired away Jason Kidd from the Brooklyn Nets. Drew had not spoken publicly at length about the Bucks' action ... until now. In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Drew admitted ...

Larry Drew Was ‘Blindsided’ By the Milwaukee Bucks’ Firing

Aug 26 2014 8:10am CDT | Source: slamonline

The Milwaukee Bucks badly mangled their hiring of new head coach Jason Kidd, and ended up kicking Larry Drew to the curb after just one season. Drew ended up in a much better situation as an assistant coach in Cleveland — and Milwaukee will continue to pay his salary for the next two years — but still, he still has a bad taste in his mouth about the way things ended with the Bucks. Per the Journal Sentinel: Larry Drew said he was “ ...

JR Smith Wants to Become a Leader for the New York Knicks

Aug 25 2014 9:15am CDT | Source: slamonline

Having tried virtually everything else with varying degrees of success, New York Knicks guard JR Smith says one of his goals next season is to transform into a team leader. We don’t know what this means to JR as he heads into year 11, but certainly can’t wait to find out. Per ESPN: “Be a leader,” Smith said in an interview on Thursday at his foundation’s annual golf fundraiser. “We’ve got so many younger guys around. A lot of the olde ...
