NBA: San Antonio Spurs Reach 2-Year Deal with Manu Ginobili

Jul 3 2013, 9:28pm CDT | by

Guard Manu Ginobili reached a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

Manu Ginobili will play two more seasons for the San Antonio Spurs

The soon-to-be 36-year-old guard reached a two-year deal with the team on Wednesday, as reported on USA Today Sports. He announced this himself on his Twitter account.

"Thrilled to announce that as I always hoped, I'm gonna stay with the @spurs for two more years. #gospursgo."

The Associated Press reports terms of the new deal weren't disclosed. However, Ginobili figures to take a pay cut from the $14.1 million he made in 2012-13. This seems to be confirmed by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski who writes the two-year deal is reportedly worth $14 million, citing league sources.

According to Wojnarowksi, Ginobili will earn $7 million in the 2013-14 NBA season.

Ginobili had an up-and-down postseason in 2013, even contemplating retirement after a horrendous showing in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season. Him sticking around for two more years assures Spurs fans their Big Three of Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan are intact for next season.

Ginobili and Bill Bradley are the only two players to win an NBA title, an Olympic gold medal and a Euroleague title, per USA Today Sports' Jeff Zillgitt. In addition, Ginobili seeks to add another NBA championship trophy to his resume after winning three with the Spurs, whom he has played his entire career for.

What If Kawhi Leonard Doesn't Become a San Antonio Spurs Superstar This Season?

Sep 16 2014 2:04am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Kawhi Leonard has largely been a quiet standout for the San Antonio Spurs, but the small forward has proven he holds the potential of becoming a top NBA player. That statement is not exactly ground-shaking, especially given his elite showing during the 2013 finals. The Miami Heat may have won the series, but Leonard's hype train began rumbling at a dangerous speed. He was soon heralded as the next best thing, and it was supposed to be an immediat ...

Sep 1 2014 7:14pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

In his three seasons since turning pro, San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard has established himself as one of the league's brightest young stars—and he's done it the old-fashioned way. "He has a great capacity to absorb things and he works hard," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told reporters last season. "He comes early to practice. He stays after. Our development guys work with him constantly and he wears them out. So he really wants to be good and ...
