NBA: San Antonio Spurs Reach 2-Year Deal with Manu Ginobili

Jul 3 2013, 9:28pm CDT | by

Guard Manu Ginobili reached a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

Manu Ginobili will play two more seasons for the San Antonio Spurs

The soon-to-be 36-year-old guard reached a two-year deal with the team on Wednesday, as reported on USA Today Sports. He announced this himself on his Twitter account.

"Thrilled to announce that as I always hoped, I'm gonna stay with the @spurs for two more years. #gospursgo."

The Associated Press reports terms of the new deal weren't disclosed. However, Ginobili figures to take a pay cut from the $14.1 million he made in 2012-13. This seems to be confirmed by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski who writes the two-year deal is reportedly worth $14 million, citing league sources.

According to Wojnarowksi, Ginobili will earn $7 million in the 2013-14 NBA season.

Ginobili had an up-and-down postseason in 2013, even contemplating retirement after a horrendous showing in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season. Him sticking around for two more years assures Spurs fans their Big Three of Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan are intact for next season.

Ginobili and Bill Bradley are the only two players to win an NBA title, an Olympic gold medal and a Euroleague title, per USA Today Sports' Jeff Zillgitt. In addition, Ginobili seeks to add another NBA championship trophy to his resume after winning three with the Spurs, whom he has played his entire career for.

Jul 21 2014 4:59pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The 2014 NBA free-agency period was captivating, transcending even the sports world with a certain four-time MVP reclaiming his throne in Northeast Ohio. The trade market might still produce a stunner, a few more restricted free-agent dominoes still need to drop, but the red carpets have been rolled up and placed in storage for next summer. So ...
