NBA: San Antonio Spurs Reach 2-Year Deal with Manu Ginobili

Jul 3 2013, 9:28pm CDT | by

Guard Manu Ginobili reached a two-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

Manu Ginobili will play two more seasons for the San Antonio Spurs

The soon-to-be 36-year-old guard reached a two-year deal with the team on Wednesday, as reported on USA Today Sports. He announced this himself on his Twitter account.

"Thrilled to announce that as I always hoped, I'm gonna stay with the @spurs for two more years. #gospursgo."

The Associated Press reports terms of the new deal weren't disclosed. However, Ginobili figures to take a pay cut from the $14.1 million he made in 2012-13. This seems to be confirmed by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski who writes the two-year deal is reportedly worth $14 million, citing league sources.

According to Wojnarowksi, Ginobili will earn $7 million in the 2013-14 NBA season.

Ginobili had an up-and-down postseason in 2013, even contemplating retirement after a horrendous showing in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season. Him sticking around for two more years assures Spurs fans their Big Three of Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan are intact for next season.

Ginobili and Bill Bradley are the only two players to win an NBA title, an Olympic gold medal and a Euroleague title, per USA Today Sports' Jeff Zillgitt. In addition, Ginobili seeks to add another NBA championship trophy to his resume after winning three with the Spurs, whom he has played his entire career for.

Is 2014-15 The Last Year For San Antonio Spurs’ Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili?

Aug 14 2014 8:05am CDT | Source: Rant Sports

This question has been ongoing for at least the last five seasons. And every season the San Antonio Spurs bring most of the same guys back, including 38-year-old Tim Duncan and 37-year-old Manu Ginobili. Both of these guys have been immeasurably instrumental to their franchise’s success. Duncan won his fifth ring this past June, w ...

Slamadamonth, SLAM #181: Manu Ginobili

Aug 7 2014 10:08am CDT | Source: slamonline

It was a play that began with a single pass—odd for these Spurs in these Playoffs. Tim Duncan throwing a two-handed overhand outlet to Manu  Ginobili, who then went to work. TD, heading upcourt at slightly more than a stately jog, didn’t reach the other end until it was over. The Heat had opened this must-win Game 5 at breakneck speed, pulling away to a double-digit lead, but that was gone now. And Manu Ginobili, soon to be 37 years old, who appeared near the en ...

Paul George injury puts FIBA rule in spotlight

Aug 2 2014 10:25am CDT | Source: SBNation

The NBA and FIBA currently have an agreement that limits the teams' ability to pull their players from international competition. George's injury questions the validity of that agreement. Paul George's horrifying leg injury during the televised USA Basketball scrimmage wasn't just devastating for the star wing, who will reportedly miss all of next season. It was equally hurtful to his NBA team, the Indiana Pacers, who now have to cope with the loss of ...
