New York Giants linebacker Dan Connor was arrested on Saturday after a knife was allegedly discovered in his luggage.

CBS New York cited reports from authorities and team officials who say Connor had a switchblade in his luggage at the Philadelphia International Airport. A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer saw the knife on an X-ray machine monitor.

Connor, who hails from Charlotte, N.C., was consequently arrested and charged with possession of an offensive weapon. He was released on his own recognizance, per a police spokeswoman via CBS.

A separate report from Metro U.S.' Alex Wigglesworth states Connor was arraigned shortly before 8:30 p.m. and is next due in court on August 6 for a status hearing.

USA Today Sports notes Giants team spokesman Pat Hanlon as saying they are aware of Connor's situation.

"We've spoken to Dan, who is cooperating with the authorities in Philadelphia."

CNN refers to the policy coming from federal authorities which banned knives on board aircrafts right after the Setember 11, 2001 terrorist attacks for Connor's arrest. TSA chief John Pistole's proposal of knives smaller than 2.36 inches be allowed was eventually disapproved after it was criticized by airlines, unions and Congress.

Connor signed a two-year deal worth $6.5 million with the Cowboys in March 2012. He had 56 tackles at inside linebacker as an eight-game starter.

He signed with the Giants four months ago.
