NFL: NY Giants, WR Victor Cruz Agree to 5-Year, $43 M Deal

Jul 8 2013, 9:17pm CDT | by

The New York Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz agreed to a five-year deal on Monday reportedly worth $43 million.

Victor Cruz will be doing his touchdown salsa dance celebration with the New York Giants for at least five more years.

Cruz agreed to a five-year mega-deal with the Giants on Monday worth $43 million, making him the highest-paid receiver they've ever had. The New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano writes Cruz is expected to sign the deal, which includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money, on Tuesday.

Vacchiano did a bit of Math on Cruz's expected haul in the next six years which adds up to $45.879 million. This also includes the $2.879 million he is slated to receive this season under the restricted free agent tender he signed in June.

ESPN New York breaks it down further by saying Cruz has a $9.5 million signing bonus and an additional $1.5 million roster bonus.

Cruz says he's happy to get it over with.

"It was fun to finally get it done with. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time; I couldn't stop grinning. Good to put my ink on that piece of paper and feel good about it and feel confident about it and get back to football.

"I just knew that we were in this for the long haul, we were going to be patient and wait this thing out, and make sure we make the right decision in the right way and not feel any regrets."

Cruz added he doesn't want to play anywhere else, per USA Today Sports.

"I think my deal is tremendous. I think to be able to be in a top position as a slot receiver amongst the best in the league, I think it's definitely a great deal. You don't want to be anywhere else. I don't want to play anywhere else."

The deal also assured quarterback Eli Manning of a top-notch slot receiver for many years to come. In the past two seasons, Cruz caught 168 passes for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Now Is Not the Time for New York Giants to Flip-Flop on Offensive Strategy

Oct 28 2014 4:57pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The New York Giants haven't been dominating offensively, but it's obvious they've made progress in new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's conservative system, as the players have absorbed it over the course of the first seven games of the 2014 season.  The problem is, despite the fact quarterback Eli Manning is playing some of his best football without starters Victor Cruz, Ras ...

The 3-4 Giants will try to run that streak to eight straight when they host Andrew Luck and the 5-3 Colts Monday night at MetLife Stadium.   Point spread: Colts opened as three-point favorites; the total was 51 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored ...

What's Next for the NY Giants After Losing LB Jon Beason for the Season?

Oct 27 2014 9:01pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The official announcement from the New York Giants confirming that middle linebacker Jon Beason will have season-ending surgery on his troublesome big toe came as little surprise. Once known as a top linebacker, Beason, a three-time Pro Bowler for the Carolina Panthers, has fallen on hard times with his health, playing in just 24 games since 2011 due to assorted season-ending injuries. Last year, he enjoyed a bit of a rebirth, when he was traded to a rudderless Giants team stuck in ...

Packers WR Randall Cobb Has Proven He Deserves Contract Extension Before 2015

Oct 27 2014 12:34am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

After Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson earned a four-year, $39 million extension this offseason while Randall Cobb entered the fourth year of his rookie contract, Cobb told ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky "I don't believe I've done enough, and I think that's on me." Halfway through the 2014 season, however—one in which Cobb has scored a career-high nine touchdowns—enough may be enough. If the Packers want Cobb on th ...

Packers' Randall Cobb Having a Career Season in Contract Year

Oct 20 2014 8:47pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

After locking down Jordy Nelson to a $39 million extension and drafting Davante Adams in the second round of the past draft, the Green Bay Packers have key pieces of their receiving unit set for the future. The current question mark moving forward is Randall Cobb, the 2011 selection who is set to hit free agency next offseason. In his rookie year, Cobb became the first NFL player born in the 1990s to score a touchdown. Starting his career off nicely, Cobb only improved statistically in ...

Fantasy Football Week 8: Trade Targets to Help You for 2nd Half of Season

Oct 20 2014 5:20pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

No matter what your fantasy team looks like at this point of the season, it is likely you can always use more help to make sure you bring home that championship. The good news is some key additions could be brought in for relatively low costs in trades. In most leagues, you are not going to be able to trade for someone like Peyton Manning or DeMarco Murray because whoever owns them knows exactly how much they are worth. On the other hand, there are struggling players who have the talent to e ...
