NFL: NY Giants, WR Victor Cruz Agree to 5-Year, $43 M Deal

Jul 8 2013, 9:17pm CDT | by

The New York Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz agreed to a five-year deal on Monday reportedly worth $43 million.

Victor Cruz will be doing his touchdown salsa dance celebration with the New York Giants for at least five more years.

Cruz agreed to a five-year mega-deal with the Giants on Monday worth $43 million, making him the highest-paid receiver they've ever had. The New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano writes Cruz is expected to sign the deal, which includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money, on Tuesday.

Vacchiano did a bit of Math on Cruz's expected haul in the next six years which adds up to $45.879 million. This also includes the $2.879 million he is slated to receive this season under the restricted free agent tender he signed in June.

ESPN New York breaks it down further by saying Cruz has a $9.5 million signing bonus and an additional $1.5 million roster bonus.

Cruz says he's happy to get it over with.

"It was fun to finally get it done with. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time; I couldn't stop grinning. Good to put my ink on that piece of paper and feel good about it and feel confident about it and get back to football.

"I just knew that we were in this for the long haul, we were going to be patient and wait this thing out, and make sure we make the right decision in the right way and not feel any regrets."

Cruz added he doesn't want to play anywhere else, per USA Today Sports.

"I think my deal is tremendous. I think to be able to be in a top position as a slot receiver amongst the best in the league, I think it's definitely a great deal. You don't want to be anywhere else. I don't want to play anywhere else."

The deal also assured quarterback Eli Manning of a top-notch slot receiver for many years to come. In the past two seasons, Cruz caught 168 passes for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns.

New York’s Eli Manning has big night against depleted Redskins secondary

Sep 26 2014 12:45am CDT | Source: Washington Post Sports

Well before Thursday night’s kickoff at FedEx Field, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz had one of the more prominent story lines figured out. The Washington Redskins’ secondary would struggle, Cruz predicted, without 11-year veteran cornerback DeAngelo Hall, whose season ended with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon in the previous week’s loss at Philadelphia. It wasn’t just Hall’s nose for the ball that Washington would miss, Cruz said, it was his stabilizing pre ...

Giants vs. Redskins: Score and Twitter Reaction for Thursday Night Football

Sep 25 2014 10:44pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Larry Donnell entered the 2014 season as anonymous as an NFL player can be. Eli Manning was the opposite, the highly publicized and highly criticized scourge of the Giants organization.  Both left as heroes Thursday night. Manning and Donnell connected for three touchdown passes, all in the first half, as the Giants went into Washington and blew out the Redskins, 45-14, to earn their second straight impressive win. After losing ...

10 Things We Learned About the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3

Sep 24 2014 6:16pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Against all odds, the Philadelphia Eagles just keep finding ways to win. They’ve trailed by at least 10 points in all three games this year. They’ve been losing or tied in all three fourth quarters. They’ve had an All-Pro running back struggle to find holes, an offensive line that is quickly turning into the second-string offensive line and a defense that ranks 27th in scoring. Give credit to Chip Ke ...

The New York Giants and Washington Redskins will both try to even their records at 2-2 when they meet in an NFC East matchup on Thursday Night Football. NY Giants vs. Washington: Breaking Down New York's Game Plan

Sep 24 2014 8:59am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Say what you want about statistics in the NFL, but sometimes the numbers just don’t lie. Take for instance the Thursday night prime-time clash between the New York Giants (1-2) and Washington (1-2), one of the oldest rivalries in the NFC East. How important is this game to both teams? The winner will be in good shape as far as keeping pace with the Philadelphia Eagles, the current NFC East division leaders. The loser will fall 2.5 games back of the Eagles, a steep hole. Let’s take a quick look ...

For Manning's Giants, There May Be Light at the End of the Tunnel After All

Sep 24 2014 7:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Is it possible that it all just suddenly clicked? After all of the preseason tumult and the heavy criticism fans and the media launched at the New York Giants and their brand-new offense—which for a good seven weeks in August and September looked like the least competent unit in professional football—is it realistic to think that Eli Manning and Co. abruptly went from inept to highly productive, basically overnight? Nobody ...

Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 4: Making the Call on Fantasy Football Fringe Starters

Sep 24 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Fantasy football doesn't just humble you on a weekly basis, it can downright confound you. This week, after starting Victor Cruz for the first two weeks and getting a total of eight fantasy points for my troubles, I decided to sit Cruz due to the New York Giants' anemic passing attack.  And Cruz responded with 16 fantasy points. Sigh. But hey, that's how it goes, right? This isn't an exact science, after all, and at the end of the day all you can r ...
