NFL: NY Giants, WR Victor Cruz Agree to 5-Year, $43 M Deal

Jul 8 2013, 9:17pm CDT | by

The New York Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz agreed to a five-year deal on Monday reportedly worth $43 million.

Victor Cruz will be doing his touchdown salsa dance celebration with the New York Giants for at least five more years.

Cruz agreed to a five-year mega-deal with the Giants on Monday worth $43 million, making him the highest-paid receiver they've ever had. The New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano writes Cruz is expected to sign the deal, which includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money, on Tuesday.

Vacchiano did a bit of Math on Cruz's expected haul in the next six years which adds up to $45.879 million. This also includes the $2.879 million he is slated to receive this season under the restricted free agent tender he signed in June.

ESPN New York breaks it down further by saying Cruz has a $9.5 million signing bonus and an additional $1.5 million roster bonus.

Cruz says he's happy to get it over with.

"It was fun to finally get it done with. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time; I couldn't stop grinning. Good to put my ink on that piece of paper and feel good about it and feel confident about it and get back to football.

"I just knew that we were in this for the long haul, we were going to be patient and wait this thing out, and make sure we make the right decision in the right way and not feel any regrets."

Cruz added he doesn't want to play anywhere else, per USA Today Sports.

"I think my deal is tremendous. I think to be able to be in a top position as a slot receiver amongst the best in the league, I think it's definitely a great deal. You don't want to be anywhere else. I don't want to play anywhere else."

The deal also assured quarterback Eli Manning of a top-notch slot receiver for many years to come. In the past two seasons, Cruz caught 168 passes for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Giants Offense Has Plenty of Issues, but Eli Manning Remains the Biggest Problem

Aug 20 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Three weeks into an extended 2014 preseason schedule and the New York Giants offense has yet to realize summer vacation is over. After picking up only 38 total yards on four first-team possessions Saturday in Indianapolis, that first unit remains stuck on 14 points on 11 possessions this preseason. Eight of those series ended in punts, five after only three plays.  And unsurprisingly, the key probl ...

Giants WR Odell Beckham out for third preseason game

Aug 19 2014 4:34pm CDT | Source: Fantasy Football Toolbox

Beckham has been ruled out for the Giants' third preseason game with a hamstring injury. Beckham appeared to re-injure the hamstring at practice on Monday, despite the Giants' coaching staff's denial of an incident. Beckham has now missed almost a month of practice time, and has not played in a preseason game. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The third preseason game is particularly important because it's a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Starters see the most playing time of an ...

Giants Showing Continued Growing Pains in Adapting to Ben McAdoo's New Offense

Aug 16 2014 10:40pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Painful is certainly one way to describe the experience of watching the New York Giants offense try to come together under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. Those who were hoping that last year's offensive showing was an anomaly, one in which the Giants started the season 0-6 and Eli Manning threw a career-high 27 picks, have cause to squirm after three weeks of preseason play. While adjusting ...

Fantasy Football 2014: How Searching for Sleepers Affects Mock-Draft Strategy

Aug 14 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

No word is used more in my life during the month of August than "sleepers." I literally think about sleepers in my sleep. Anybody else who writes about fantasy or is obsessed with it will tell you that they do the same. But over the years, I've made some rules about how I divide my attention when it comes to seeking out sleepers. You see, not all sleepers are created equally. I've basically disappeared for days on en ...

Fantasy Football Predictions 2014: Analyzing NFL's Top Bounce-Back Candidates

Aug 13 2014 1:42pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Every fantasy owner has a blacklist of players they refuse to draft after getting burned by them one year earlier. With that said, there is no room for closed-mindedness in fantasy football. Many players have a down year every once in a while, but it isn't always their fault. Having a productive fantasy season requires many things to go right, and some of them have absolutely nothing to do with the players themselves.  If the ...

Golden Nuggets: Finally Gameday

Aug 7 2014 4:00am CDT | Source: ninersnation

Thursday, August 7, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web. Good Morning everyone. After quite possibly the longest off season in my memory, the 49ers will be playing actual football this afternoon! I know its only preseason, and I'm sure I will hate the next four weeks leading up to the regular season. But the first preseason game is always a fun one. I don't really need or want to ...

Wilson has ‘tears of joy’ as he thanks Giants

Aug 6 2014 3:56pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — David Wilson said he had “tears of joy” as he thanked the Giants on Wednesday, two days after doctors told the third-year running back that he could no longer play football. When the 23-year old Wilson, who was waived-injured by the Giants on Tuesday, spoke of his teammates, he paused twice and brushed away tears with the pocket handkerchief from his blue pinstriped suit. "You have great players, some of them probably will end up in the Hall of Fame, and ...
