Daruvala secures double podium in British Karting

Jul 9 2013, 7:54am CDT | by

London, July 9 (IANS) Indian driver Jehan Daruvala was back on the podium last weekend at the third round of the KFJ British Kart Championships in Larkhall, Scotland.

London, July 9 — Indian driver Jehan Daruvala was back on the podium last weekend at the third round of the KFJ British Kart Championships in Larkhall, Scotland.

The 14-year-old was on the pace from the start of practice and finished second and third successively in the two heats on Saturday afternoon.

Daruvala then repeated that performance on Sunday, picking up points for two podium finishes. The strong showing saw him end the event second overall.

The result keeps Daruvala in the hunt for the 2013 KFJ Series crown as he is just 13 points behind leader Daniel Ticktum.

The Sahara Force India Academy driver will be back in action at Clay Pigeon, in Dorset, at the end of August for the fourth round of British Series.

Force India driver mentor Terry Fullerton said: "Daruvala showed great pace all weekend and finished a very close second in the third round of the series at Larkhall. It was important to pick up enough points to strengthen his position in the championship and with three events still to go he is very much in the hunt for the KFJ crown."

Daruvala was satisfied with his effort. "Qualifying went well and I finished the first heat in second place. For the second heat I came third, but I was able to match the pace of the drivers ahead of me. In the opening final, I started second and finished second, just half a second behind the winner. In the second final, I was determined to try to take the lead on lap two, but the move didn't work out and I dropped down to third."

Labour must renew its vows to Britains minorities

The Labour Black Network will unveil its manifesto for change at party conference this week and it is urgent that Ed Miliband pays attentionQuestion: how might the Labour party respond to its near-death experience in Scotland? The vote was won, but it seems clear that Labours estrangement from its former support base made the race such a tight one in the first place. The last thing it should become is complacent.A priority must be to shore up its white working-class vote, but also ...

Constitutional reform: English votes for English laws cuts two ways

The fix the masters of the universe and many politicians want is one that leaves the same people in charge to do the same thingsLast week I attended the opening of an exhibition in London having just got back from Scotland. I had left behind a dialogue that was gripping and exhilarating. I did not witness the ugly, threatening behaviour so talked about in the southern media. We Scots are not inhibited about having a good barney ...

Getting the same powers as Scotland to run their own affairs will be a central issue in the next general electionSquint and the clock tower of Manchester's town hall might, with some imagination, resemble Big Ben. The neo-Gothic structure is already being talked up by some Mancunians as a substitute for parliament when MPs relocate as Westminster is refurbished during the next decade. But Manch ...

Exhilarating times at Westminster mean new challenges for our leaders

The no vote in Scotland has transformed the political agendas on the eve of the party conference seasonIn the small hours of Friday morning, when no one was sure whether the UK still existed, a tempest broke over the capital. Drum rolls of thunder and flashes of angry lightning distracted us from the proportion of yeses and nos in Clackmannanshire and the Western Isles. The celestial timing was apt. An ancient in ...
