Daruvala secures double podium in British Karting

Jul 9 2013, 7:54am CDT | by

London, July 9 (IANS) Indian driver Jehan Daruvala was back on the podium last weekend at the third round of the KFJ British Kart Championships in Larkhall, Scotland.

London, July 9 — Indian driver Jehan Daruvala was back on the podium last weekend at the third round of the KFJ British Kart Championships in Larkhall, Scotland.

The 14-year-old was on the pace from the start of practice and finished second and third successively in the two heats on Saturday afternoon.

Daruvala then repeated that performance on Sunday, picking up points for two podium finishes. The strong showing saw him end the event second overall.

The result keeps Daruvala in the hunt for the 2013 KFJ Series crown as he is just 13 points behind leader Daniel Ticktum.

The Sahara Force India Academy driver will be back in action at Clay Pigeon, in Dorset, at the end of August for the fourth round of British Series.

Force India driver mentor Terry Fullerton said: "Daruvala showed great pace all weekend and finished a very close second in the third round of the series at Larkhall. It was important to pick up enough points to strengthen his position in the championship and with three events still to go he is very much in the hunt for the KFJ crown."

Daruvala was satisfied with his effort. "Qualifying went well and I finished the first heat in second place. For the second heat I came third, but I was able to match the pace of the drivers ahead of me. In the opening final, I started second and finished second, just half a second behind the winner. In the second final, I was determined to try to take the lead on lap two, but the move didn't work out and I dropped down to third."

The UKs exit from the EU is in the hands of Scottish voters

Aug 27 2014 6:03pm CDT | Source: the guardian

If Scotland opts for independence, the UKs divorce from Europe would swiftly followThe referendum on Scottish independence, due on 18 September, comes at a time of growing opposition in the UK to remaining in the EU. This is significant because Scotland is the strongest base of pro-European sentiment in the UK.A poll conducted earlier this year determined that if a referendum on continued EU membership had been held in June in the UK as a whole, 47.1% would have voted to leave, ...

Bank holidays: end these annual festivals of misery

Aug 26 2014 3:31am CDT | Source: the guardian

The rainiest, coldest summer holiday for ages underlines one simple fact: these outdated days off come at the wrong times of year, and should be scrappedI blame the British class system. Yesterdays August bank holiday was the coldest on record, with an average 30mm of rain. Carnivals in Notting Hill and elsewhere were drenched. Snow fell in Scotland. It was reportedly warmer in Siberia. On my Welsh beach, hardy souls in puffer jackets and scarves walked their dogs while children bleakly trailed ...

Fizz Marshall’s therapy blog: When life gives you lemons…

Aug 24 2014 9:44am CDT | Source: horse and hound

My last blog was written while visiting my family in Scotland, and what a lovely week I had. It was straight back to work though on the following Monday as we made the final preparations for the horse trials here at Hartpury. The main job for Team Therapy was to run the trot ups and we had beautiful sunshine for the first horse inspection on the Wednesday, with the total opposite of torrential rain for Sunday’s renewal. Despite this, it was a great week, but ...
