Shane Warne to be inducted in ICC Hall of Fame

Dubai, July 11 (IANS) The International Cricket Council (ICC) Thursday said that legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, July 19, during the tea interval of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia at Lord's.

Dubai, July 11 — The International Cricket Council (ICC) Thursday said that legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, July 19, during the tea interval of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia at Lord's.

Warne becomes the 69th male member of the Hall of Fame, and joins fellow 2012-13 inductees Brian Lara of the West Indies, England's Enid Bakewell and former Australia team-mate Glenn McGrath.

Lara and Bakewell were inducted in September last year at the LG ICC Awards in Colombo, and McGrath during the Sydney Test between Australia and Sri Lanka in January this year.

Warne represented Australia in 145 Tests between 1992 and 2007, claiming 708 Test wickets at an average of 25.41. He was the first cricketer to reach 700 Test scalps and incidentally is still the only Test player, to date, to have scored more runs without making a century.

He also played in 194 ODIs, claiming 293 wickets at an average of 25.73 and was part of the Australia side that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1999 at Lord's against Pakistan alongside fellow Hall of Famers Glenn McGrath and Steve Waugh. His performance at the match saw him named Player of the Final after he concluded the game with match figures of 9-1-33-4.

Warne said of the induction: "I'm very honoured and proud to be announced as an inductee into the ICC Hall of Fame later this month and I'd like to thank the voting academy very much for even considering me."

"I'm looking forward to celebrating my induction with my friends and family in front of the crowd at Lord's during the second Ashes Test."

Kevin Pietersen's Autobiography: Alastair Cook Shouldn't React to KP's Book

Oct 10 2014 8:20am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

So, here we are, just one day after the launch of Kevin Pietersen's book KP: The Autobiography in a week that began with his explosive interview with Paul Hayward of The Telegraph.  Already, it's clear there'll be few winners from this spectacular, but largely lamentable, fallout. No one looks good in war; Pietersen's wrath only serving to further entrench the opinions of both his supporters and detractors as he opens up on his ve ...

Tom Holland

Sep 10 2014 10:00pm CDT | Source: Spectator Magazine

I feel a bit about the Scottish referendum as I did about the 2005 Ashes series. In both cases, those of us in the know were gripped with a nervous tension right from the very beginning. Shane Warne, Alex Salmond: the same smirk, the girth, the same potentially lethal form. That whole summer of 2005 I was on the rack, following every convulsive twist and turn, hoping against hope that England would manage ...
