Yohan Blake to miss rest of the season

Jul 22 2013, 5:01pm CDT | by IANS

Kingston (Jamaica), July 22 (IANS/CMC) Jamaican sprint superstar Yohan Blake is recovering well but will miss the rest of the track season, his manager Cubie Seegobin has disclosed.

Kingston (Jamaica), July 22 (IANS/CMC) Jamaican sprint superstar Yohan Blake is recovering well but will miss the rest of the track season, his manager Cubie Seegobin has disclosed.

Blake has struggled with a stubborn hamstring injury, which he suffered in April and has since pulled out of next month's IAAF World Championships in Moscow, reports CMC.

Blake, reportedly the second-highest earner in global athletics behind Usain Bolt, may have lost several millions since injuring his hamstring.

"Our thing is quality and it's not that money isn't needed, but we don't need money to the point that we are going to exploit a situation," Seegobin said.

"We just thank God that he is healthy and getting better and he is trying to get back to where he was."

The 100m world champion, who it is understood earns in the region of $150,000 in appearance fees alone, was previously forced to withdraw from meets in Edmonton, Shanghai and Doha, in addition to the Jamaica Invitational.

"He (Blake) would definitely like to go to the World Championships, anyone would," Seegobin in an interview with The Gleaner.

"But the mere fact that he is finally getting healthy and he is about three weeks away from being 100 percent; but he won't be right for the World Championships, the decision was made and he is okay about it now."

Blake is the second-fastest athlete in both the 100m and 200m, with times of 9.69 seconds and 19.26 seconds, respectively.

In addition to his 100m world title from 2011, the 23-year-old also won silver medals in the 100m and 200m at last year's Olympic Games.

"We have always been about quality and not quantity, Blake is not a regular athlete, he is a Ferrari and we are not going to put him on track unless he is going to give the 100 percent that everyone is accustomed to," Seegobin added.

Sep 16 2014 4:45am CDT | Source: balls

Balls.ie Professional sports stars are like fine-tuned athletic machines. In the modern era of specialised diet programmes and rigorous training regimes, it is a rare sight to see an athlete carrying a bit of extra weight. The novelty of what has become colloquially known as the “fat-lete” has almost become extinct. If you ever wondered, even just out of sheer bitterness, what a certain sporting hero would look like if they were dangerously portly, look no ...

Chelsea FC: Can the Blues Run Away with the Premier League?

Sep 16 2014 3:30am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Before we begin, constituting what "running away with the league" means seems paramount. There is no clear-cut definition, but for the purposes of this article—and hopefully our posterity—the scenario could be explained as follows: "A side has ‘run away with their league’ should a distance of at least 10 points exist between them and the runners-up come season’s end." Obviously the mathematics may deceive ...

This time around, it was unanimous for Money, who took his time getting out of the blocks but by the end was in firm control of a ...

A Houston man accused of killing his wife will walk free after his attorney persuaded prosecutors Thursday that he could not have committed the crime. Darryl Wayne Tindol, 48, was accused of setting Susan Harper on fire by tossing a flammable liquid on her as she smoked a cigarette in the couple's car. "Logistically, it would have been impossible for him to set that fire," said Murray Newman. "Unless he's Usain Bolt, he couldn't have be ...
