NHL: NJ Devils, Jaromir Jagr Reportedly Reach 1-Year Deal

Jul 22 2013, 10:21pm CDT | by

The New Jersey Devils reportedly reached a one-year deal with Czech star Jaromir Jagr.

Jaromir Jagr is now a New Jersey Devil.

According to Mike Vorkunov of the Star-Ledger, the Devils reached a one-year deal with Jagr, citing an ESPN report. The star right wing reportedly visited the Devils' home arena, the Prudential Center, last week although his agent would not confirm it. All he said was there was a "possibility" he had, per Vorkunov.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun broke the news via Twitter.

"Ok 30-sec break from vacation. Jaromir Jagr has agreed to one-year deal with Devils. Likely won't be officially announced until Tuesday..."

Devils manager Lou Lamoriello would neither confirm nor deny the Jagr acquisition.

"I have no comment on any players that can potentially go anywhere. I have no comment. When, and if, we have transactions, you'll know. But rumors, I don't respond to."

Once Jagr's deal is made official, it should help offset the loss of left wing Ilya Kovalchuk, who retired from the NHL last week to play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Forward David Clarkson left the Devils just six days before Kovalchuk's NHL retirement to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent. He led New Jersey with 15 goals last season.

The 41-year-old Jagr's productivity has declined recently due to groin issues. He scored just one goal since he was dealt to the Boston Bruins by the Dallas Stars at last season's trade deadline. He had a total of 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 2012-13.

Jagr enters his 20th NHL season. Aside from the Bruins and Stars, he has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers. For his career, he has 681 goals and 1,007 assists for 1,688 points.

NHL scores: Devils, Penguins big winners on a wild night of hockey

Oct 10 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: SBNation

With 24 teams in action on Thursday night it was a crazy night across the NHL complete with comebacks, milestones, injuries, brutal hits and some zany randomness. The second day of the NHL season featured 24 teams in action and gave us a little bit of everything. A little bit of acting. A coach turning into the devil. Significant injuries. Ugly hits. And even a fat joke. We also saw a couple of really wild, exciting games. One of the reoccurring themes in last year ...

Maybe it's Jaromir Jagr's last season; maybe not, since he did put up 67 points for the Devils last year. But just on the chance that this'll be his last run, let's not wait for the silver anniversary. It was 24 years ago today that a bemulleted Penguins rook ...

Penguins hit refresh, ready to reclaim Cup

Oct 7 2014 10:37am CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

Bill Guerin looked across the ice and did a double take. Less than 24 hours earlier he had been dealt from the last-place New York Islanders to the Pittsburgh Penguins, just minutes before the 2009 trade deadline. Sure, the Pens were at that point out of a playoff spot, but they were the defending Eastern Conference champs, and recently hired head coach Dan Bylsma had breathed new life into the club. The 38-ye ...
