NFL: Browns OC Turner Thinks RB Richardson Can Be Like Emmitt Smith or LT

Jul 24 2013, 10:57pm CDT | by

Clevelend Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner believes running back Trent Richardson has what it takes to be as great as his former players Emmitt Smith or LaDanian Tomlinson.

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson as the next Emmitt Smith or LaDanian Tomlinson?

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, this is certainly what Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner thinks

"Just watching him and seeing him against us when I came here in October and then watching the tape, yeah, he's that type of runner. Obviously, he's the third pick in the draft. I think he has a lot of great days ahead of him. I always have a problem comparing players because each guy has his own unique style, but I think he's capable of doing great things."

Richardson happens to hail from the same Pensacola, Fla. high school as NFL greats Smith and Tomlinson.

Turner also believes Richardson will be in for a 300-carry season, in spite of current pass-oriented trends.

"Obviously, the trend in the league is to not do that, but I think it depends on your team and everyone around it. If that player is your best player, then I think it's probably a good thing to have him in the game and give him the ball. So I would hope Trent would have that many carries. That means he's playing healthy and playing at a pretty high level."

Turner was hired by the Browns to be their offensive coordinator back in January. When he coached the San Diego Chargers in 2012, he already marveled at Richardson's abilities at the running back position.

The particular game that stood out was Cleveland's 7-6 victory in which Richardson had 122 yards on 24 carries which included a 26-yard run for a touchdown.

Dan Hanzus of NFL.com says should Richardson get at least 300 carries and match his receptions from 2012 (51) , he would put himself in a position to have 350 touches next season. Such a number would put him in the top five in the NFL. Arian Foster led the way in this department with 391 in 2012.

Richardson had 267 carries for 950 yards for 11 touchdowns in 15 games last season.

Fantasy football aftermath: The injuries of Week 8

Oct 27 2014 8:30am CDT | Source: SBNation

We've gone a few weeks now without any super-dramatic fantasy-relevant injuries. Either we're due for something, or the fantasy gods are getting nicer. We didn't see any trajectory-changing injuries in Week 8 of the NFL. In fact, very few players were even lost for their game. Most of the week's injury concerns were holdover injuries from weeks before. But they matter, too, so let's give it a look: Running back injuries in Week 8 The Bengals ...

Oct 27 2014 7:05am CDT | Source: SBNation

The Colts managed to put up 448 yards on offense against the Steelers. We break down the fantasy implications. The Indianapolis Colts could not figure out how to stop the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, falling to 5-3 after a 51-34 loss on Sunday. Andrew Luck and the Colts offense attempted to bring the game back within a single score in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. Although Indianapolis' defense completely fell apart, its offense ...

Oct 26 2014 6:58pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Indianapolis Colts were involved in an all-out aerial assault with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. While the game was highly entertaining to watch, it left running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Daniel Herron with limited opportunities to produce for fantasy owners. Here's a look at the duo's final numbers for the day: Bradshaw was expected to come away with a huge game due to Trent Richardson's lingering hamstring injury. Richardson didn ...

In his weekly column, SB Nation Medical Expert Dr. Ali Mohamadi gives insight into the most notable injuries in the fantasy landscape and how they might affect your roster decisions for Week 8. New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham gutted it out last week with his shoulder injury, but it affected him enough to keep his playing time down and his targets limited to just two in the Saints' loss to Detroit. Fantasy football advice, Week 8: Who to start/sit for Colts vs. Steelers

Oct 26 2014 7:55am CDT | Source: SBNation

The Colts started the season quiet, but it's been an elite team since Week 2, while the Steelers have been more up and down. By record, the 5-2 Indianapolis Colts and the 4-3 Pittsburgh Steelers are only one game apart so far this season. But by point differential, the two are hardly comparable. The Colts are +80 so far, having won five straight since starting 0-2, while the Steelers are at minus-8. So are the teams as close as their records might say, or as far apart a ...
