NBA: New Orleans Pelicans Unveil New Uniforms

The New Orleans Pelicans unveiled their new dark blue, red and gold uniforms on Thursday.

The New Orleans Pelicans unveiled their brand-new uniforms on Thursday.

According to the Pelicans' official website, the look will show off "a new identity that represents the culture and character of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region." Dark blue and gold will be the dominant colors while red will accentuate the effect. The home jerseys are white while the road ones are dark blue.

Designer Rodney Richardson took the lead in conceptualizing the team's new uniforms and logo. The word mark was inspired by French Quarter street signs.

Mike Gegenheimer of NOLA.com reports the unveiling took place at the team's training facility in Meitarie. Pelicans players Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson, Jason Smith and Jrue Holiday modeled the new uniforms in front of local-area children and the media.

New Orleans owner Tom Benson says the team is proud of the jerseys and the fact that "New Orleans" is boldly emblazoned on the front.

"When we announced the Pelicans as the new name for the team, we were looking forward to days like today. We love the look of the new uniforms and are especially proud to have New Orleans across the chest of all of our players who will be representing this great city and region."

Gegenheimer points out New Orleans is one of only three NBA teams which have their home cities stitched on the front of both the home and away jerseys. This was emphasized in the design process.

With their new look in place, the Pelicans will look to contend in the 2013-14 NBA season with the acquisitions of Holiday and Tyreke Evans as well as the possible comeback of Eric Gordon
