Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman William "The Refrigerator" Perry is alive and kicking.

The Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell interviewed Perry's agent, Adam Plotkin, for an update on the Bears legend.

"I know he is not dead. I talked to Michael Dean (Perry's brother) a few minutes ago. And I know the Bears were down there interviewing Fridge on Saturday for coach (Mike) Ditka's (jersey) retirement. But I did talk to Michael Dean, and he had gotten some calls, too, and Michael Dean said it was OK to confirm that Fridge is fine.

"I guess someone called Michael Dean and said that someone found out that someone named William Perry died, but it wasn't the Fridge. Someone from Clemson called us as well and said they had been getting a lot of calls and stuff. He is completely fine."

Mitchell also referred to a tweet from William Perry himself, who wrote on Wednesday afternoon that he's doing fine.

"I heard the rumors that I passed away online #SMH. Just wanted to let everyone (know) that they are not true and Im doing fine. Thanks guys!"

According to UPI.com's Kate Stanton, the rumor that Perry passed away stemmed from a TigerNet.com tweet which has since been deleted. This website contains information about Clemson University's sports programs, of which Perry was a part of during his college days.

This sparked several tweets from sports fans who expressed their condolences on Perry's "death."

However, Clemson's football sports information director Tim Bourret also confirmed on Twitter that Perry is doing okay.

"Some have reported that William Perry passed away today. This is not correct. He is fine."

Perry was a 325-pound defensive lineman who played in the NFL from 1985-1994 for the Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles. He amassed 506 tackles and 29.5 sacks in his pro career.
