NY Knicks G Raymond Felton: Nets 'Will Never Take Over the City'

Aug 19 2013, 12:11am CDT | by

New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton fired back at Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce's comments by saying they will "never take over the city."

New York Knicks guard Raymond Felton has a message for Paul Pierce and the Brooklyn Nets, per ESPN.

"They will never take over the city. Because we've got 'New York' on our chest. They've got 'Brooklyn' on their chest, and we've got 'New York.' They'll never take over the city.'

"He's (Pierce) just trying to talk, talk, talk to fuel the rivalry, which is good. I love it. I think it's good for us, it's good for the whole state, it's good. So whatever---I love it.

"I don't really pay no attention to what Paul is saying. I hear about it, but I don't pay it no attention. It's all fun and games to me."

Felton's comments stem from Pierce's statement two weeks ago confirming his dislike for the Knicks and him predicting that New York City will be dominated by the Brooklyn Nets.

"I think the hate [for the Knicks] has grown a little. Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it's grown to another level. I think it's time for the Nets to start running this city."

Pierce was also quick to add the Knicks versus Nets rivalry could potentially blossom into the best in all of sports.

"The only thing that separates the two teams is a bridge. And both of them are in the same division and both of them are considered contenders. You can't help but say this is probably gonna be the best rivalry in sports next year."

He was traded a little over a month ago to the Nets in a deal that also had his close friend Kevin Garnett and guard Jason Terry going to Brooklyn.

The Knicks and Nets split their 2012-13 regular season series 2-2. The upcoming season should be an interesting barometer which will indicate which team will eventually run New York City.

Tyson Chandler Unhappy the Knicks Questioned His Character

Sep 22 2014 9:15am CDT | Source: slamonline

When the New York Knicks traded away big man Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton in late June to the Dallas Mavericks, team president Phil Jackson talked about wanting to “change some of the chemistry” in the locker room. Chandler took offense to what he basically considers character assassination from his old team, and says all he did was try to bring harmony to the Big Apple’s bumbling franchise. Per ESPN: “I did no ...

What Dallas Mavericks Need from Dirk Nowitzki Next Season

Sep 17 2014 12:41am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

In many ways, the Dallas Mavericks are a completely different team. They have new point guards, a revamped roster, a potential new playing style and, to top it off, elevated expectations for the 2014-15 season. But really, the core of the team has remained the same. The team still ultimately begins and ends with Dirk Nowitzki, as it has for the last 15 years. Between his shooting stroke and role as the cornerstone of the Mavericks, as long as he’s on the roster he will be a mas ...

SLAM: Tell us about your hometown. Kendall Marshall: I grew up in northern Virginia, in Dumfries, about 20 minutes from DC. A lot of where I grew up is influenced by the DMV culture. I’m from the suburbs—I went to private school and everything, but I love where I’m from. SLAM: Did you spend a lot of time in DC as a kid? KM: Well, in high school, I played in a DC Catholic league. In my area, when you’re good at basketball you go play in the WCAC. My school was in Arlington, Virginia, but we ...

Can Dallas Mavericks Ride Intangibles to Another Championship?

Sep 11 2014 1:08pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

You'd have to go back to 2011 for a Dallas Mavericks team that had this kind of vibe. And if it was good enough for a championship then, it just might be good enough for another one. Then and now, the Mavs have heart—heart that was on full display as they pushed the San Antonio Spurs seven games in the opening round of last season's playoffs. But Dallas' capacity for overachievement may reach new heights with the return of a center who played an integral role in its las ...

Chauncey Billups was way better than all 16 players traded for him

Sep 10 2014 8:54am CDT | Source: SBNation

Chauncey Billups bounced around the NBA before establishing himself as an All-Star guard during an illustrious 17-year career. All of those teams that traded him should be kicking themselves. Chauncey Billups was not particularly productive early in his career. The same could be said for any number of high draft picks, some of whom go on to illustrious careers. But the difference between Billups and the rest is that the Coloradan got mo ...
