According to Eric Branch of SFGate.com, Jenkins didn't make a sound impact in his one-year stint in San Francisco. The 30th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft had no receptions as a rookie and fumbled his only catch in two 2013 preseason games.
Meanwhile, Baldwin didn't fare much better. He had 41 catches for 579 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons with the Chiefs. He was selected No. 26 overall in the 2011 draft.
49ers general manager Trent Baalke released a statement about the trade, per Branch.
"We would like to thank A.J. for his efforts as a member of the 49ers and wish him all the best with the Kansas City Chiefs. We are pleased to add Jonathan to our team and look forward to incorporating him into our offense. Both players have been presented a great opportunity for a new beginning with their respective teams."
His counterpart, John Dorsey of the Chiefs, said it's a win-win situation.
"We felt like this trade was beneficial for all parties involved. A.J. is a talented individual with a skill set that we fell can add value to our football team. Jon Baldwin is a hardworking player and professional. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Chiefs coach Andy Reid was not very pleased with Baldwin's play during his stint, according to the Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher.
"I don't know about any crisis and all that. I can tell you that when given the opportunity in this league, you'd better catch the football."
