According to Matthew B. Mowery of the Dearborn Press & Guide, Fielder filed for the divorce on May 28 in Orange County, Fla. - where the Fielders reside during the offsesason - citing the website LarryBrownSports.com.
"Prince is a strong guy. A lot of people don't know what's going on in his life. This guy's a strong guy. He's out there every day. He won't come out of the lineup, no matter what's going on off the field or on the field. He's a strong guy. Us as players, we know what's really going on and we appreciate him going out there every day."
"But it's something that comes with the beast. You're a public figure, you're one of the Tigers favorites, and he's gonna deal with it and he's gonna be fine.
"It's gonna be a tough situation. He's got my grandchildren involved. He's gonna handle this situation like a man and deal with it, and it's gonna come out for the best."
Fielder and his now ex-wife were married in 2005 during the Triple-A All-Star break while he was with the Nashville Sounds.
The 29-year-old Fielder is in his second season with the Tigers (ninth overall). He is currently batting on a .260 average with 19 home runs and 85 RBIs through 124 games played in the current 2013 MLB season.
