Napoli beat Bologna to top Serie A

Aug 26 2013, 5:06am CDT | by IANS

Rome, Aug 26 (IANS) Napoli dispatched Bologna 3-0 at home to go top of Italian Serie A football on goal difference.

Rome, Aug 26 — Napoli dispatched Bologna 3-0 at home to go top of Italian Serie A football on goal difference.

Last season's runners-up staked their claim to the Scudetto with an impressive display at the Stadio San Paolo Sunday, when Marek Hamsik turned out to be the hero, reports Xinhua.

The Slovakia international, after Jose Callejon had put Rafael Benitez's side ahead in the 32nd minute, doubled their lead at the injury time of the first half. He then sealed the win with another goal in the 65th minute.

Inter, under the guidance of former Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri, also drew the first blood of the new season with a 2-0 win over Genoa at home.

Goals in the final 15 minutes from Yuto Nagatomo and Rodrigo Palacio put Inter beyond Genoa's chase.

Mazzarri said the win could help his side "exorcise the psychosis" of last season.

"These lads had not won at home for many months and suffered so many defeats here last year, so they needed this win to exorcise the psychosis," he said.

"I tried to reassure the squad, as I knew Genoa would sit and wait for us. I am happy for the lads, also for their first half performance. The substitutions were studied and planned, it all went the way we thought it would," he said.

Torino beat newly-promoted Sassuolo 2-0 at home, with goals either side of the break from Matteo Brighi and Alessio Cerci proving the difference.

Roma also ran out 2-0 winners as two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half from Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Florenzi handed them victory away at Livorno.

Their city rivals Lazio were 2-1 winners at home to Udinese.

Hernanes opened the scoring for the hosts after 13 minutes and Antonio Candreva doubled that advantage from the spot three minutes later.

Substitute Luis Muriel's goal on the hour was not enough for Udinese to claim anything from the game.

Cagliari had to come from behind at home to Atalanta to get off the mark with a 2-1 victory.

Guglielmo Stendardo struck first for the visitors after 27 minutes but that lead was cancelled out within a minute by Radja Nainggolan.

Matias Cabrera hit the winner after 63 minutes to hand all three points to Cagliari.

Elsewhere, Parma and Cheivo played out a goalless draw.

Inter willing to loan forward to Verona or Torino

Aug 19 2014 2:30am CDT | Source: forzitalianfootball

Inter are reported to be willing to loan out midfielder Ruben Botta to either Torino or Hellas Verona, who are chasing his services. Nerazzurri boss Walter Mazzarri is still unconvinced of Botta’s quality, but does not want to risk losing the 24 year old Argentinian on a permanent basis. Sky Sport Italia report that the Beneamata are therefore willing to loan him out to a Serie A side this season to see how he fares, and monitor if he is up to the required standard. Verona and ...

Fredy Guarin or Ricky Alvarez could leave as Inter look to balance books

Aug 15 2014 4:20pm CDT | Source: forzitalianfootball

Inter could sell either Fredy Guarin or Ricky Alvarez as they look to balance the books following their recent spending spree in the transfer market. Colombian Guarin nearly left the Nerazzurri in January but a move to Juventus fell through after a fan revolt and president Erick Thohir pulled the plug on the deal. Fellow South American Alvarez doesn’t seem to fit into coach Walter Mazzarri 3-5-2 system and could be deemed surplus to requirements at the San Siro. According to ...

Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin has emerged as a possible transfer target for both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Juventus: Could Antonio Conte Be Back on Their Bench in the Future?

Aug 8 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Yes, it sounds like the recurring dream of a Juventus fan since July 15, when Antonio Conte abruptly resigned as the team's coach. But the possibility of Conte returning to the club he won eight Scudetti with as player and manager should certainly not be dismissed. It obviously won't be next year. His next destination will likely be outside of Italy. He had stated a desire to coach abroad as early as March of 2013, when Sky Sport quoted him as ...

5 Players Inter Milan Need to Sell in the Summer Transfer Window

Aug 7 2014 5:31pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

A host of new signings at Inter Milan mean the Italian giants could need to trim their squad over the summer, especially if there are more players set to join. Walter Mazzarri is entering his second year in charge, and will be keen to further sculpt the side to his tastes. While there is not an over-abundance of attacking options at the San Siro, defence and midfield are both areas where the club could afford to offload a few ...
