Former Indiana Hoosier Devan Dumes will go on trial on September 16 in Marion Superior Court (Ind.) for several felony charges.

Former Indiana Hoosier Devan Dumes will go on trial on September 16 for several felony charges.

According to Tim Evans of the Indianapolis Star, Dumes is accused of shooting a man in the neck on January 11and was subsequently charged with attempted murder. The trial is expected to commenct at around 1:30 p.m.

Evans cites a probable-cause affidavit which states the victim, Keith Jones, checked in at Wishard Memorial Hospital on that fateful day. Jones drove himself to the hospital with serious neck injuries.

On January 10, Jones said he bumped into Dumes at a nightclub. The former Hoosier asked him if he wanted to sell his car. Jones replied in the affirmative.

In Evans' words,"In the early hours of Jan.11, Jones said, Dumes called him about buying the car. They met at 39th and Graceland streets. Dumes left his car and quickly got into the Camaro, then brandished a handgun and shot Jones, according to the affidavit."

In the aftermath of the incident, the Indy Channel reported on January 30 that the other charges being slapped against Dumes include attempted carjacking and possession of a handgun without a license.

Just two days before the alleged shooting incident involving Jones, Dumes figured in another brush with authorities when he reportedly "pulled out a handgun from his waistband and opened fire" at the house where his brother was following an argument.

The brother was said to be holding Dumes' one-year-old son during the shooting.

The mother of the child, who was present during the incident, said Dumes had "droopy eyes and slurred speech." On July 24, Dumes also got in trouble after police stopped his car and discovered he possessed cocaine and an unlicensed handgun.

Dumes averaged 9.7 points for the Hoosiers from 2008-2010.
