The Healing Place of Wake County Hoopsfest Committee Adds New Members to Slam Dunk Homelessness

Raleigh, NC, September 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- HoopsFest, the 3 on 3 basketball tournament to be held at North Hills Mall on October 19, 2013 to support The Healing Place, is shaping up as both worthwhile as well as a fun event for the entire family due to the efforts of the Hoopsfest Board of Directors and Committee.

“Having a number of local celebrities and basketball stars involved including Chris Corchiani, Julius Hodge, Shavlik Randolph and Will Roach really adds sizzle to Hoopsfest,“ said Tom Bonfield, founder of Adaptive Technologies International, Healing Place Board member and one of the driving forces behind the fourth annual HoopsFest event.

“We are finalizing our sponsorships now,” said Chris Corchiani, former Boston Celtic and NC State basketball star, “so sign up at the website at www.hoopsfestnc.com to form a team, play, sponsor or volunteer for the event.

As a matter of reference, past title sponsors include 99.9 The Fan, Smithfiel d’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, WRAL , Gregory Poole Co., and Plexus Capital.

Please check on this video at www.hoopsfestnc.com or obtain more information on HoopsFest from the web or call (919) 838-9800. Help us Slam Dunk homelessness in our community.

About the HoopsFest Board and Committee
Members of The HoopsFest Committee are contributing countless hours in planning this basketball event in the heart of Tobacco Road. Committee members include:
Chris Corchiani is the CEO of Gateway Bank Mortgage. Chris attended NC State University and was selected by the Orlando Magic in the NBA Draft. In college, he was half of the dynamic duo ‘Fire and Ice’ and finished as the NCAA’s career leader in assists. Named second-team All-ACC , Corchiani is third in ACC history in career steals. Chris was named honorable mention All-America by The Sporting News in 1990.

Shavlik Randolph is a local basketball prodigy who starred at Broughton High School from 1998-2002, where he broke Pistol Pete Maravich’s all-time and single-game scoring records. He was named a McDonald’s All American in 2002. Shavlik played at Duke and in the NBA for the Sixers, Blazers, Heat, and Celtics. Last season, Shavlik was the CBA’s leading scorer and league MVP.

Julius Hodge, NC State superstar, ACC Player of the Year in 2004 and first team All American grew up in the rough streets of Harlem, New York. During the time when the crack cocaine epidemic was rampant, drug deals and shootings literally took place a few feet away from the projects where Julius grew up. As a senior at Saint Raymond High School for Boys, he was named First-team Parade All-American, New York’s “Mr. Basketball” and New York Daily News Player of the Year.

Will Roach is a Raleigh native who played his high school basketball at Broughton. He walked on to the NC State basketball team and was a fan favorite from 2000-2005. Don’t be surprised to find Will in the crowd at NCSU basketball games giving out his trademark Wolfpack Tradition Scarves.

About The Healing Place
The Healing Place of Wake County is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and other drug dependency. The Men’s Facility opened its doors in 2001 and the Women’s Facility began operation in 2006. The Healing Place facilities have provided more than 825,000 beds of shelter and days of recovery to homeless men and women at a cost of less than $35 per client per day. Remarkably, one year after program completion, over 70% of the graduates from the program are still sober, employed, tax paying citizens. The Healing Place of Wake County is built on the principles of the highly successful Healing Place in Louisville KY, which received the 1998 US Department of Health Resources and Service Administration “Models That Work Award” in recognition of the success of the program.
