NBA: Pacers F Paul George to Commit to Long-Term Deal

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George gave a verbal commitment to the team and said that a long-term extension will eventually be worked out.

NBA: Pacers F Paul George to Commit to Long-Term Deal

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George is staying put. 

According to Michael Pointer of the Indianapolis Star, he "plans to be here (Indianapolis) for a long time." He spoke with the George, who said a long-term deal is in the offing.

This puts to rest any speculation that the All-Star forward will bolt for another team considering 2013-14 is the final year of his contract. 

"(A long-term contract) is going to get done. There will be a deal signed and sealed on the table before the season. We're (he and team management) are on the same page.

"Honestly, I love it here. I want to be here. It's a great place. There are no distractions. I can stay focused. It's all about basketball here. I can stay focused and do my job."

He earned $2.574 million last year and will become a restricted free agent should there be no deal by the end of next season. 

 However, Pacers President Larry Bird is hoping a deal would be arranged for George before the season in order for him to be able to focus more on his play.

"We are working on it now. We've got a way set up where we definitely think we can get something done, but it's going to have to work for both parties."  

George enjoyed a breakthrough 2012-13 season which saw him earning a slew of accolades including NBA All-Star, NBA Most Improved Player of the Year, NBA All-Defensive Second Team and All-NBA Third Team honors.  

He was also recognized for his stellar postseason play when he went head-to-head with superstars Carmelo Anthony in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and MVP LeBron James in the Eastern Conference Finals. 

George averaged 17.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists last year.
