Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has emerged as a favorite to succeed Lane Kiffin as USC Trojans mentor.

Could Jack Del Rio possibly be the next USC Trojans head football coach?

Del Rio, who is currently the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, hasn't left Denver yet and is highly vouched for by his boss, Broncos coach John Fox. According to Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today Sports, Fox quipped Del Rio is "definitely qualified" to take on the Trojans job.

Jones points out there are several Internet rumors saying Del Rio was spotted at Los Angeles International Airport but Fox promptly refuted these hearsays.

He said,"He wasn't at LAX. I was actually with him at Del Frisco's when that came out."

Del Frisco's is an "upscale steakhouse," per Jones, who adds he and Fox go a long way back, dating to their days with the Carolina Panthers when Fox was the head coach and he was defensive coordinator.

The Denver Post reported on September 30 that Del Rio will work through the 2013 NFL season and finish his contract with the Broncos, virtually ending speculation he will leave for USC anytime soon.

The report cites two Broncos sources who said "the team would not allow Del Rio out of his contract until it expires in February." Even if he doesn't get the USC job, he will still be a strong candidate for other NFL head coaching jobs that will be open.

The Trojans fired Kiffin on Sunday, less than six hours after the team lost 62-41 to the Arizona State Sun Devils. USC athletic director Pat Haden consulted with his advisers and made the decision after the Sun Devils scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter.

USC was 3-2 when Kiffin, who finished 28-15 overall, was dismissed.

Broncos vs. Seahawks: The No Bull Review

Sep 23 2014 2:00pm CDT | Source: milehighreport

This game has been circled on my calendar since the Super Bowl. Not for the sake of revenge, but to find out what progress our team would make. Let's dig into our first loss of the season and find out more about our 2014 Denver Broncos. Let me start off by saying this was an extremely frustrating game for me to watch. Our team for some strange reason is just dead-set on being something they are not. After week 3, I can say without a shadow of a doubt th ...

New, Physical Broncos Defense Now Officially Battle-Tested

Sep 23 2014 6:16am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Seattle Seahawks physically dominated the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl last February, and for a short time last Sunday, it looked like they would do the same in the rematch. The Broncos’ early offensive game plan was so conservative it bordered on scared, and the Seahawks built a 17-3 lead by halftime. Quarterback Peyton Manning and Denver’s talented offense sputtered until the fourth quarter, but something changed on ...

Horse Tracks: No one is to blame for Broncos loss to Seahawks

Sep 22 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: milehighreport

Stuff happens in football games. Sometimes that stuff benefits your team, other times it screws them. The end result was an exciting 26-20 thriller in overtime that should give us all confidence in this team moving forward. If you absolutely must blame something for the impressive 26-20 overtime game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, then blame fate. Fate caused the coin to fall in the Seahawks favor to start overtime. It couldn't hav ...

Take a bow Broncos coaching staff, you cost your team the game

Sep 21 2014 7:43pm CDT | Source: milehighreport

A game with that many ups and downs will undoubtedly have a lot of points where the tide could have turned one way or another. One thing is for certain though, Jack Del Rio and his failure to account to Russell Wilson and inability to adjust to his roll-outs cost the Broncos a chance at a hard fought win on the road. Let's start with the offense - The Good There wasn't a lot of good. Their first possession they moved the ball well. Manning worked th ...

Sep 20 2014 4:33pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Denver Broncos this week come up against their Super Bowl nemesis from last year, the Seattle Seahawks. Fresh from a dismantling of their general game by the brilliant Seahawks last season, the Broncos have identified the source of their loss and have attempted to solve the issue. Their campaign last season ended in ashes largely due to their defense, but they will be hoping that from those ashes ...

What's the meaning of 24? Seattle Seahawks Offense - Ranked 14th in yards per game - Ranked 25th in passing yards per game - Ranked 4th in rushing yards per game - Ranked 4th in points per game (28.5) Summary: Russell Wilson enters his 3rd season much in the same way he has spent his previous two - game manager. Broncos players emphasize the win, improvements, not the mistakes

Sep 16 2014 11:30am CDT | Source: milehighreport

A win is a win is a win is a win. The Denver Broncos come away with a 'W' against the Kansas City Chiefs despite their best efforts to beat themselves with penalties and missed opportunities, but players keep pledging that these mistakes and miscues are temporary. Sunday's 24-17 win over the Chiefs was anything but satisfying, but if you didn't watch the game and only listened to players' comments, you might have a different ...

Bend but don't break is broken

Sep 15 2014 2:34pm CDT | Source: milehighreport

After a 24-17 divisional victory, one should just be happy that the Broncos won the game, right? Wrong. "Never apologize for getting wins in this league, men" - John Fox I agree, you shouldn't apologize for a win. In the end, the Broncos are 2-0 heading into a rematch with the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. Winning isn't the issue though, they way the Broncos did it remains the ...

Chiefs vs. Broncos: Breaking Down Denver's Game Plan

Sep 12 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Denver Broncos opened the 2014 season with a win. They defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-24, holding off the Colts as they made a fourth-quarter comeback. This week, the Broncos play the division rival Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a somewhat shocking loss at home to the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs made the playoffs last year after starting the season 9-0. However, since that hot start, they’ve gone 2-7 in the last nine gam ...
