Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has emerged as a favorite to succeed Lane Kiffin as USC Trojans mentor.

Could Jack Del Rio possibly be the next USC Trojans head football coach?

Del Rio, who is currently the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, hasn't left Denver yet and is highly vouched for by his boss, Broncos coach John Fox. According to Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today Sports, Fox quipped Del Rio is "definitely qualified" to take on the Trojans job.

Jones points out there are several Internet rumors saying Del Rio was spotted at Los Angeles International Airport but Fox promptly refuted these hearsays.

He said,"He wasn't at LAX. I was actually with him at Del Frisco's when that came out."

Del Frisco's is an "upscale steakhouse," per Jones, who adds Del Rio and Fox go a long way back, dating to their days with the Carolina Panthers when Fox was the head coach and Del Rio was defensive coordinator.

The Denver Post reported on September 30 that Del Rio will work through the 2013 NFL season and finish his contract with the Broncos, virtually ending speculation he will leave for USC anytime soon.

The report cites two Broncos sources who said "the team would not allow Del Rio out of his contract until it expires in February." Even if he doesn't get the USC job, he will still be a strong candidate for other NFL head coaching jobs that will be open.

The Trojans fired Kiffin on Sunday, less than six hours after the team lost 62-41 to the Arizona State Sun Devils. USC athletic director Pat Haden consulted with his advisers and made the decision after the Sun Devils scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter.

USC was 3-2 when Kiffin, who finished 28-15 overall, was dismissed.

Denver Broncos: Has Chris Harris Become the NFL's Best Cornerback?

Oct 21 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Denver Broncos revamped their defense this offseason. They went after big-name free agents on the defensive side of the ball as soon as they were allowed to. Additions like strong safety T.J. Ward, defensive end DeMarcus Ware and cornerback Aqib Talib have paid off in a big way for the Broncos this season. The Broncos made these moves to upgrade the defense that struggled to stop—or even slow down—the Seattle Seahawks in Super B ...

49ers vs. Broncos: Score and Twitter Reaction from Sunday Night Football

Oct 19 2014 10:42pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

On a night when Peyton Manning broke the individual record for career touchdown passes, the Denver Broncos used a complete team effort to hand the San Francisco 49ers a 42-17 lashing. Manning, of course, was the story of the night after completing 22 of his 26 throws for 318 yards and four touchdowns, putting him in front of Brett Favre on the all-time list with 510 passing scores: But the Broncos dominated every ...

Danny Trevathan injury is different this time

Oct 13 2014 2:41pm CDT | Source: milehighreport

Same leg. Different injury. 3-6 weeks, reportedly. A lot of people saw Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan carted off the field Sunday with a left leg injury and assumed he had been rushed back to the field too soon. After all, he missed seven weeks in the preseason and regular season when he cracked a bone below his left knee in training camp, and he had only been back one previous game. Presumably he suffered a setback to the ...

Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware Being Used Effectively by the Denver Broncos

Oct 1 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Denver Broncos wanted to improve their pass rush this year. That's one of the main reasons why they signed future Hall of Fame defensive end DeMarcus Ware in free agency. The plan was to team Ware with linebacker Von Miller to give the team one of the most dangerous pass-rushing duos in the league. Both players were coming off disappointing performances in 2013. Ware, then with the Dallas Cowboys, was held back by a nagging elbow injury and finished the year with only six sa ...

Broncos vs. Seahawks: The No Bull Review

Sep 23 2014 2:00pm CDT | Source: milehighreport

This game has been circled on my calendar since the Super Bowl. Not for the sake of revenge, but to find out what progress our team would make. Let's dig into our first loss of the season and find out more about our 2014 Denver Broncos. Let me start off by saying this was an extremely frustrating game for me to watch. Our team for some strange reason is just dead-set on being something they are not. After week 3, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Fox has stu ...

New, Physical Broncos Defense Now Officially Battle-Tested

Sep 23 2014 6:16am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Seattle Seahawks physically dominated the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl last February, and for a short time last Sunday, it looked like they would do the same in the rematch. The Broncos’ early offensive game plan was so conservative it bordered on scared, and the Seahawks built a 17-3 lead by halftime. Quarterback Peyton Manning and Denver’s talented offense sputtered until the fourth quarter, but something changed on the defensive side of the ...

Horse Tracks: No one is to blame for Broncos loss to Seahawks

Sep 22 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: milehighreport

Stuff happens in football games. Sometimes that stuff benefits your team, other times it screws them. The end result was an exciting 26-20 thriller in overtime that should give us all confidence in this team moving forward. If you absolutely must blame something for the impressive 26-20 overtime game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, then blame fate. Fate caused the coin to fall in the Seahawks favor to sta ...
