Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has emerged as a favorite to succeed Lane Kiffin as USC Trojans mentor.

Could Jack Del Rio possibly be the next USC Trojans head football coach?

Del Rio, who is currently the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, hasn't left Denver yet and is highly vouched for by his boss, Broncos coach John Fox. According to Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today Sports, Fox quipped Del Rio is "definitely qualified" to take on the Trojans job.

Jones points out there are several Internet rumors saying Del Rio was spotted at Los Angeles International Airport but Fox promptly refuted these hearsays.

He said,"He wasn't at LAX. I was actually with him at Del Frisco's when that came out."

Del Frisco's is an "upscale steakhouse," per Jones, who adds Del Rio and Fox go a long way back, dating to their days with the Carolina Panthers when Fox was the head coach and Del Rio was defensive coordinator.

The Denver Post reported on September 30 that Del Rio will work through the 2013 NFL season and finish his contract with the Broncos, virtually ending speculation he will leave for USC anytime soon.

The report cites two Broncos sources who said "the team would not allow Del Rio out of his contract until it expires in February." Even if he doesn't get the USC job, he will still be a strong candidate for other NFL head coaching jobs that will be open.

The Trojans fired Kiffin on Sunday, less than six hours after the team lost 62-41 to the Arizona State Sun Devils. USC athletic director Pat Haden consulted with his advisers and made the decision after the Sun Devils scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter.

USC was 3-2 when Kiffin, who finished 28-15 overall, was dismissed.

Denver Broncos Terrance Knighton Taking the Lead on Defense

Jul 18 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp
When the Denver Broncos added Terrance Knighton before the 2013 season, it was a transaction that went under the radar for most NFL fans. He wasn’t known nationally as “Pot Roast” yet, and he was mainly known as a draft pick of former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach (and current Broncos defensive coordinator) Jack Del Rio. The Broncos signed Knighton to a two-year $4 million contract with hopes that he could rejuvenate his career with a fresh start. Del Rio knew how to get the best out of Knigh ...

Film Study: TJ Ward

Jul 13 2014 10:00am CDT | Source: milehighreport

GBK Luxury Sports Lounge, Prior To The ESPY Awards
Good morning Broncos fans! It's been said since he was acquired by the Broncos this past spring that TJ Ward would play all over. For a SS or box safety, that usually implies more of a linebacker role in subpackages.  What I saw from his days in Cleveland however indicate that he can and will be used quite extensively in coverage, especially against opposing TE's.  When it cam ...

No need to ask the leadership question anymore

Jun 16 2014 9:00am CDT | Source: milehighreport

Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp
What's more important is the communication between players - and their willingness to be both students and teachers of the game. Enough already with the leadership question at every press conference. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of strong leaders to help a team stay on track. But frankly, it's an irrelevant question with this team now - either too early to force the question or unnecessary. And that's a good thing. Defensive c ...

How much longer can the off season last? Forever. Or at least it seems that way. It's times like this that I pull out the History of the Denver Broncos DVD or rewatch the two Super Bowl victories. Now's the time to make sure that last season's beer and wing stains have been thoroughly scrubbed from the game-day jerseys. A time to go through the hat collection and find the one variation of logos and colors that you may not have. O ...

Why Aqib Talib Is the Key NFL Offseason Acquisition so Far

Jun 13 2014 10:55am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp
The Denver Broncos bolstered their glaring weakness in the secondary this offseason by signing Pro Bowl free agent cornerback Aqib Talib. With shutdown corner potential, Talib’s playmaking ability will help Denver not only put the clamps on opposing receivers and tight ends, but also it will also help create more turnovers for a team with a historically great offense. The Broncos are hoping that Talib’s physicality and toughness wi ...

Von Miller Hoping for a Peterson-Like Comeback This Year for the Denver Broncos

Jun 13 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

2014 MLB All-Star Legends And Celebrity Softball Game
The Denver Broncos have one of the best young pass-rushers in the game today in fourth-year pro Von Miller. He is an elite-level player and has multiple moves to get after the passer. A linebacker on some downs, Miller plays a hybrid position for Jack Del Rio’s defense and is sometimes lining up at defensive end. Regardless of where he’s lined up, Miller has one goal in mind—put pressure on the quarterback. Miller is currently reco ...
