Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated first broke the news. It was then verified by a league source to CSN California before the Raiders issued a statement about Flynn's dismissal from the team

Terrelle Pryor's play under center plus Flynn's horrid play in a 24-14, Week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins all but sealed the latter's fate, per CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair, who was able to get Raiders head coach Dennis Allen's thoughts on the matter.

"I don't know exactly what the reason was for why it didn't work. It just didn't work. Terrelle came in and took over the job. He's earned the position that he's in. We felt like it was best to move on from that."

In that game, Flynn threw a pick-six, lost a fumble and was sacked seven times.

NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal writes Allen "was harshly critical of Flynn after the (Redskins) game and then demoted him to No. 3 on the depth chart, behind undrafted rookie Matthew McGloin."

Rosenthal also cites his colleague Ian Rapoport, who says former Houston Texans and New York Giants quarterback David Carr as well as Pat White are in Oakland for a workout with the Raiders.

Raiders free safety Charles Woodson chimed in on Flynn's release, per Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com.

"When Flynn got another opportunity last week and wasn't able to deliver, I think they just weren't able to deal with it. It just kind of mounted up against him, and it didn't work out."

Rosenthal labeled the development as "embarrassing" for Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, who gave up a fifth-round pick in 2014 and more than $6 million in salary to obtain Flynn's services.

Aaron Rodgers Has Been More Assertive With His Scrambles

Oct 21 2014 2:00pm CDT | Source: The Big Lead

Aaron Rodgers, as you may have heard by now, has had a pretty nice four-game stretch after telling Packers fans to stop being whiny, ungrateful malcontents R-E-L-A-X. He’s deservedly getting a lot of credit for what he’s been doing with his arm. For the second half of the four-game streak, a lot of his success has been enabled by an increased willingness to pick up yards on the ground. After Rodgers fractured his non-th ...

Reemergence of Eddie Lacy Driving Force Behind Packers Offensive Surge

Oct 2 2014 11:34pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

By the time he was done with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, Eddie Lacy had amassed twice as many touchdowns yards in three quarters as he had in any game through the first four weeks of the 2014 NFL season.  The Green Bay Packers win over the Vikings, notable for featuring the most balanced offensive showing so far this season, also marked the first time in 2014 that the Packers attempted more rushes (28) than passes (22, between Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn).  It was a symbiotic relati ...

Green Bay Packers Return to Form, NFL's Elite with Dominant Win over Vikings

Oct 2 2014 11:00pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

This is what great teams do.  On first glance, many might write off the Green Bay Packers' 42-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings. There's good reason to as well, since the Vikings were not only without running back Adrian Peterson, but also newly minted starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and tight end Kyle Rudolph as well.  Indeed, in a vacuum, it's almost impossible to treat this anything like the preseason contest it looked like. Heck, we even got ...

'Thursday Night Football' live stream: How to watch Vikings vs. Packers online

Oct 2 2014 5:00pm CDT | Source: SBNation

One of the best rivalries in football will be featured in prime time on Thursday night, with a leg-up in the race for the NFC North crown on the line. Stop me if you've heard this: The NFC North is wide open. That could be said about any division in the NFL right now, but it feels truer about the NFC North, where it's impossible to pick out a single dominant club. The Green Bay Packers, M ...

Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers: Complete Week 5 Preview for Green Bay

Oct 1 2014 1:47am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Last year's meeting between the Packers and Vikings and Lambeau Field was an odd one.  For one, the game ended in a tie, the only tie of 2013 and just the fourth tie of the 21st century. It was a game that started with Scott Tolzien at quarterback and finished with Matt Flynn, who led a 16-point come-from-behind charge that saved Green Bay's season.  This year's Lambeau matchup, which takes place on Thursday night at 8:25 p.m. ET, will feature ...

NFL Takeaways: Why Belichick is hurting Patriots

Sep 30 2014 11:18am CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

Is this the beginning of the end for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots? It’s easy for us in the media to overreact to a bad loss, but the Patriots’ issues against Kansas City represent a bigger problem: personnel issues. Because of Bill Belichick’s brilliance as a head coach, his average track record as a general manager has been overlooked. It’s something we first raised after the NFL Draft in May. As former NFL scout and NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah pointed out on Twi ...

Giants Defenders Say Playing Against Kirk Cousins Was Like Christmas

Sep 26 2014 11:50am CDT | Source: The Big Lead

Kirk Cousins came crashing down to earth last night, after a short stretch against Jacksonville and Philadelphia where he threw 6 touchdown passes. Cousins fumbled once, and threw four second half interceptions in Washington’s blowout defeat to the New York Giants, each looking worse than the previous one. The Giants players, though, were like kids on Christmas. “It’s like Christmas,” defensive back Zack Bowman said ...
