Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated first broke the news. It was then verified by a league source to CSN California before the Raiders issued a statement about Flynn's dismissal from the team

Terrelle Pryor's play under center plus Flynn's horrid play in a 24-14, Week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins all but sealed the latter's fate, per CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair, who was able to get Raiders head coach Dennis Allen's thoughts on the matter.

"I don't know exactly what the reason was for why it didn't work. It just didn't work. Terrelle came in and took over the job. He's earned the position that he's in. We felt like it was best to move on from that."

In that game, Flynn threw a pick-six, lost a fumble and was sacked seven times.

NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal writes Allen "was harshly critical of Flynn after the (Redskins) game and then demoted him to No. 3 on the depth chart, behind undrafted rookie Matthew McGloin."

Rosenthal also cites his colleague Ian Rapoport, who says former Houston Texans and New York Giants quarterback David Carr as well as Pat White are in Oakland for a workout with the Raiders.

Raiders free safety Charles Woodson chimed in on Flynn's release, per Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com.

"When Flynn got another opportunity last week and wasn't able to deliver, I think they just weren't able to deal with it. It just kind of mounted up against him, and it didn't work out."

Rosenthal labeled the development as "embarrassing" for Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, who gave up a fifth-round pick in 2014 and more than $6 million in salary to obtain Flynn's services.
