Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey broke his thumb after it got jammed in his car door on Wednesday afternoon.

Bad news for the Detroit Pistons: guard Rodney Stuckey has a broken right thumb.

According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, Stuckey "suffered the injury when his thumb was caught inside the door jamb of his vehicle Wednesday afternoon."

Here is an excerpt of the team's press release about the incident from CBS Sports.

"The Detroit Pistons announced today that guard Rodney Stuckey has suffered a fracture of the distal phalanx on his right thumb and will miss tonight's game vs. Miami

"The injury occurred on Wednesday afternoon as a result of the thumb becoming caught inside the door jamb of Stuckey's vehicle while the door was closing.

A break in his thumb was revealed. He will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to sit out for an unspecified amount of time. This marks the second time Stuckey has broken a part of his hand in his pro career. In his rookie year, he had a broken bone in his left hand which forced him to miss 27 games, per Ellis.

The mishap occurs on the same day Detroit head coach Maurice Cheeks praised Stuckey's play after practice. Both he and point guard Brandon Jennings (widom tooth discomfort) sat out the preseason game against the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Kyle Singler took the court in Stuckey's absence.

Realistic Expectations for Avery Bradley's Role with Boston Celtics Next Season

Aug 21 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Boston Celtics will begin the 2014-15 season with one of the most notoriously overcrowded backcourts in the NBA. How does this impact Avery Bradley, who heads into his fifth campaign with a brand-new four-year, $32 million contract? Coming off a season that wasn’t overly impressive but exceeded expectations (especially on offense), Bradley will likely start beside point guard Rajon Rondo on opening night. But thanks to the presence of Marcus Smart, Boston’s incoming lott ...

Pistons 2014-15 Schedule: Top Games, Championship Odds and Record Predictions

Aug 13 2014 5:17pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Detroit Pistons aren't short on talent. That's why, following a miserable 29-53 campaign, they elected for changes in the front office before concentrating on the depth chart.  Chief among those moves was the hiring of Stan Van Gundy as the team's head coach and president of basketball operations.  "Stan is a proven winner in our league," said Pistons owner Tom Gores in a statement, via ...

Pacers 2014-15 Schedule: Top Games, Championship Odds and Record Predictions

Aug 13 2014 5:10pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Indiana Pacers are the most uncertain commodity among the Eastern Conference's top teams entering the 2014-15 NBA season. Even though the Miami Heat lost LeBron James to a sudden, potential contender in the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana had its share of infighting and horrendous play toward the end of last year. Thanks to the overall weakness of the East, the Pacers still managed to make the conference finals, where they lost to Miami in six games. Lance Stephenson walked in free a ...

How Far Will Indiana Pacers Fall Without Paul George?

Aug 12 2014 6:36pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Unrestrained optimism is no match for the Paul George-less Indiana Pacers. No matter how his absence following an open tibia-fibula fracture is spun, no matter what context it's put in, there is no bright side. The Pacers are going to stumble, slip and ultimately fall without him. There is no preventing it, only making it easier to deal with.  All of that is a given. And with regression unavoidable, there's no use entertaining the question som ...

Should Shawn Marion Spurn Cleveland Cavaliers for Indiana Pacers?

Aug 12 2014 12:49pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Shawn Marion has options.  The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a potential landing spot for a while now, but the Indiana Pacers are making a late run for the forward's services, hoping to mitigate some of the negative impact suffered when Paul George was lost for the year.  Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski first broke the news about the competition, reporting that Indiana was beginning to drop out of the running:  The Indiana Pacers wanted to pursue Marion as a s ...

Frank Vogel's Coaching About to Get Ultimate Test for Depleted Indiana Pacers

Aug 12 2014 12:34pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

At far too many points toward the end of the last regular season, it was easy to imagine Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel wondering—perhaps aloud, perhaps only to himself—whether things could possibly get any worse. It might’ve taken months for the real verdict to present itself, but when it did, there was no mistaking where it fell: Worse. Much worse. First with the departure of Lance Stephenson and then with the tragic injury to Paul George, the strin ...

How Will Indiana Pacers Score Points Without Paul George and Lance Stephenson?

Aug 7 2014 1:15pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

It's a good thing the Indiana Pacers know how to play some defense. They'll need a lot of it without their two most dynamic playmakers from the 2013-14 campaign. Lance Stephenson opted to sign with the Charlotte Hornets in July after leading the league with five triple-doubles last season. The 23-year-old posted career highs across the board, averaging 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He also gave the Pacers another play ...

Aug 6 2014 8:10am CDT | Source: slamonline

The NBA’s Bigs Problem

Aug 5 2014 8:21am CDT | Source: Grantland

As we fly toward the Halloween deadline for players entering their fourth season to sign contract extensions, two guys are especially intriguing: Kenneth Faried and Tristan Thompson. The NBA market is always evolving, and sometimes it’s hard to separate real trends from random noise. Free agency is a business, but it’s a nontraditional one with weird anticompetitive restraints, and sometimes it appears more ...
