Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey broke his thumb after it got jammed in his car door on Wednesday afternoon.

Bad news for the Detroit Pistons: guard Rodney Stuckey has a broken right thumb.

According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, Stuckey "suffered the injury when his thumb was caught inside the door jamb of his vehicle Wednesday afternoon."

Here is an excerpt of the team's press release about the incident from CBS Sports.

"The Detroit Pistons announced today that guard Rodney Stuckey has suffered a fracture of the distal phalanx on his right thumb and will miss tonight's game vs. Miami

"The injury occurred on Wednesday afternoon as a result of the thumb becoming caught inside the door jamb of Stuckey's vehicle while the door was closing.

A break in his thumb was revealed. He will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to sit out for an unspecified amount of time. This marks the second time Stuckey has broken a part of his hand in his pro career. In his rookie year, he had a broken bone in his left hand which forced him to miss 27 games, per Ellis.

The mishap occurs on the same day Detroit head coach Maurice Cheeks praised Stuckey's play after practice. Both he and point guard Brandon Jennings (widom tooth discomfort) sat out the preseason game against the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Kyle Singler took the court in Stuckey's absence.

How the Indiana Pacers Can Remain in the Eastern Conference Playoff Picture

Oct 10 2014 6:31pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

No Paul George. No Lance Stephenson. No good for the Indiana Pacers. Only a year after finishing with the best record in the Eastern Conference, Indiana would find itself fortunate if it were playing in May. Injuries and general roster attrition have seemingly killed the Pacers' season, but in a weak conference, it's too soon to count the team completely out of the picture. It almost feels like the basketbal ...

Indiana Pacers Smart to Extend Frank Vogel's Contract Right Now

Oct 9 2014 10:31am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Indiana Pacers and head coach Frank Vogel didn't need another distraction in what could be an agonizingly long 2014-15 season. Between the unanswered questions left from last year's second-half swoon and the casualties suffered over the summer—Lance Stephenson's free-agency exit, Paul George's gruesome leg injury—the reigning Eastern Conference finalists could dramatically descend this time around. For all the hurdles awaiting Vogel, the uncertainty of a lame-duck ...

Paul George Injury: Updates on Pacers Star's Recovery from Leg Surgery

Sep 25 2014 4:15pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Paul George recently took one of the first big steps in his recovery from his likely season-ending leg injury, as the Indiana Pacers forward has begun working out his upper body and is getting close to being off crutches entirely.  "He's down to one crutch or no crutches," coach Frank Vogel told reporters Thursday at the Pacers' annual golf event in Indianapolis (via ESPN). "For the past three or four weeks, he ...

Frank Vogel Talks Roy Hibbert, Pacers' Offseason and 2014-15 Expectations

Sep 24 2014 3:49pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

If it isn't optimistic, Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel doesn't want to hear it. He doesn't deny the brutal blows his team suffered this summer—first the free-agent exit of Lance Stephenson, then Paul George's horrific injury at Team USA's scrimmage in Sin City—but he doesn't process them the same way many others have. He can't sulk about the damage done because he's too excited thinking about what his team can do this seas ...

Top 50: Deron Williams, no. 49

Sep 23 2014 11:00am CDT | Source: slamonline

What should we expect from Deron Williams? Early in his career, D-Will spent four straight years in the thick of the Best PG argument, and was flipped to New Jersey in the midst of a fifth such season. In his first full campaign with the Nets, Williams’ numbers stayed strong while the team won just a third of its games. The following season was a forgettable throwaway for the Nets and Williams. As was the next one. And now here ...

Realistic Expectations for Avery Bradley's Role with Boston Celtics Next Season

Aug 21 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Boston Celtics will begin the 2014-15 season with one of the most notoriously overcrowded backcourts in the NBA. How does this impact Avery Bradley, who heads into his fifth campaign with a brand-new four-year, $32 million contract? Coming off a season that wasn’t overly impressive but exceeded expectations (especially on offense), Bradley will likely start beside point guard Rajon Rondo on opening night. But thanks to the presence of Marcus Smart, Boston’s in ...
