Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey broke his thumb after it got jammed in his car door on Wednesday afternoon.

Bad news for the Detroit Pistons: guard Rodney Stuckey has a broken right thumb.

According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, Stuckey "suffered the injury when his thumb was caught inside the door jamb of his vehicle Wednesday afternoon."

Here is an excerpt of the team's press release about the incident from CBS Sports.

"The Detroit Pistons announced today that guard Rodney Stuckey has suffered a fracture of the distal phalanx on his right thumb and will miss tonight's game vs. Miami

"The injury occurred on Wednesday afternoon as a result of the thumb becoming caught inside the door jamb of Stuckey's vehicle while the door was closing.

A break in his thumb was revealed. He will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to sit out for an unspecified amount of time. This marks the second time Stuckey has broken a part of his hand in his pro career. In his rookie year, he had a broken bone in his left hand which forced him to miss 27 games, per Ellis.

The mishap occurs on the same day Detroit head coach Maurice Cheeks praised Stuckey's play after practice. Both he and point guard Brandon Jennings (widom tooth discomfort) sat out the preseason game against the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Kyle Singler took the court in Stuckey's absence.

Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries Attend Their Divorce Hearing
What's keeping the Washington Wizards from rising near the very top of the Eastern Conference standings in 2014-15? The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to be quite competitive after receiving a commitment and signed contract from LeBron James, but they're still a youthful and inexperienced bunch without much hope on the defensive end. The Indiana Pacers, who were already reeling at the end of the year, are in for a big decline after replacing Lance Stephenson with Rodney Stuckey, ...

Kyle Lowry is a more realistic free agent option for Heat than Carmelo Anthony

Jun 18 2014 9:12am CDT | Source: SBNation

Ball Up Tour 2014
While there is logistically a shot for the Miami Heat to sign Carmelo Anthony if the Big Three take pay cuts, a more realistic signing this offseason is that of point guard Kyle Lowry. It might be irresponsible to completely toss aside the possibility of Carmelo Anthony joining the Miami Heat as a free agent because it's possible by technicality, but a more likely target for president Pat Riley is Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry. Ac ...
