PGA and Senior PGA Tour Standout and Renowned Sports Psychologist Visit Old Chatham

Durham, NC, October 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Members of Old Chatham Golf Club, a prestigious Triangle-based golf club, enjoyed a special event as PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour professional Corey Pavin joined his long time coach of 23 years, renowned sports psychologist Dr. Dick Coop, for a high energy, interactive meeting with Old Chatham members and their guests. During the 90 minute Q&A, Corey Pavin answered dozens of questions from golfers seeking to improve their games. About 60 Old Chatham members and guests attended the free event, one of many such events throughout the year that are focused on tips and skills for golfers to improve their physical game, as well as how to mentally prepare and approach a round of golf.

Corey Pavin complimented members on the championship quality and natural beauty of their golf course, which he enjoyed playing with his caddie and Dr. Coop earlier in the day.

“Old Chatham is one of my favorite golf clubs to visit,” said Pavin. “It is challenging, yet fun to play. That mix is what defines a great golf course to me.”

Pavin, who spent more than 150 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 1986 and 1997. He won two gold medals at the 1981 Maccabiah Games in Israel, and turned professional the following year, proceeding to top the PGA Tour’s money list in 1991. His greatest achievement came in 1995 when he won the U.S. Open. Pavin finished his career with 28 professional wins, with 15 of those coming on the PGA Tour.

Old Chatham Member, Dr. Dick Coop, is a professor of educational psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is a consultant to all university athletic teams in the area of mental skills training and performance enhancement. In addition, he has worked with a number of professional golfers on the PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA Tours. The PGA Tour players he has worked with have won a combined six British Opens, four U.S. Opens, four PGA Championships and seven Master's. Dr. Coop has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Academy of Golf at the Hills of Lakeway in Austin, Texas and at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Fla., as well as an instructor in the Jack Nicklaus Golf Schools at the two academies.

“We are very appreciative of Corey and Dr. Coop helping our members,” said John Marino, Old Chatham director of operations. “Both gentleman have a deep history in the golf world and have enjoyed much success in their careers. We are honored that this is the third year in a row that Corey has visited the club to help our members improve their golf games. We value Dr. Coop as a long time member of the club and mentor to so many. It is great fun to see the two of them presenting at an event, as plenty of humor and wisdom are shared. Our members always look forward to this event.”
