Golfer Barr in joint first round lead in Macau

Oct 17 2013, 8:26am CDT | by IANS

Macau, Oct 17 (IANS) Australian Scott Barr battled to a three-under-par 68 for the joint first round lead at a wind-swept Macau Open Thursday, renewing his affair with the $800,000 Asian Tour tournament.

Macau, Oct 17 — Australian Scott Barr battled to a three-under-par 68 for the joint first round lead at a wind-swept Macau Open Thursday, renewing his affair with the $800,000 Asian Tour tournament.

The 41-year-old produced a measured performance at the par-71 Macau Golf and Country Club shooting four birdies against a lone bogey to set the early pace with rookie Ben Campbell of New Zealand, who shot the tournament's first hole-in-one, and Finland's Kalle Samooja.

Birthday boy Ernie Els of South Africa salvaged a 71 after fighting back from being four-over-par through his opening seven holes to lie three shots behind the leaders.

Two-time champion Zhang Lian-wei rolled back the years with a 69 for a share of fourth place with Thai teenager Jazz Janewattananond and Prom Meesawat, Australian Marcus Both and Bangladeshi Siddikur, who led on four-under before bogeying his closing two holes.

Barr broke onto the Asian scene 10-years-ago here when he lost in a play-off to Colin Montgomerie after agonisingly lipping out a birdie putt for victory on the 72nd hole.

"I hit the ball good enough and made some up and downs early in the round and kept it going. The ball wasn't flying early this morning. It was very windy, very dark and murky. I knew it was going to be tough. I'm not sure what the forecast is going to be but if it stays like this, I'm actually looking forward to it," said Barr, who is still seeking the elusive first Asian Tour victory.

FANTASY GOLF PICKS: Gamble On Tiger Woods At Bridgestone Invitational

Jul 28 2014 12:15pm CDT | Source: SportsGrid

WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Defending Champ: Tiger Woods Choosing a roster for the Bridgestone Invitational all boils down to one question: Take Tiger or not? Since I have a strong inclination that the public is going to fade crusty ol’ Eldrick, count me in on the contrarian play. WELCOME TO THE TEAM TIGER!!!! Now, you need to know your competition. If you play in a casual league featuring members that know very little about golf, chances are, they’re going to take Tiger every time he’ ...

RBC Canadian Open 2014: Tee times, TV schedule, online streaming for Friday

Jul 25 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: SBNation

An unknown amateur stole the show late on Thursday, but Friday will feature the Canadian Open's top group out in the afternoon during the broadcast window. A benign Royal Montreal setup on Thursday was open to several scores in the mid-60s, and a pretty deep set of players will start round two in the red. But even with the solid group under-par, the story of the first day was probably an unknown amateur, Taylor Pendrith. Pendri ...
