Roma coach Garcia says Napoli are favourites

Oct 18 2013, 3:31am CDT | by IANS

Rome, Oct 18 (IANS) AS Roma head coach Rudi Garcia has said Napoli start favourites when they meet Friday night in Italian Serie A action.

Rome, Oct 18 — AS Roma head coach Rudi Garcia has said Napoli start favourites when they meet Friday night in Italian Serie A action.

The Serie A leaders will host the second-placed Napoli and Garcia insisted that Napoli are the stronger side, reports Xinhua.

"Napoli are the favourites and they were built to win the Scudetto and to play in the Champions League," he said. "They almost have two teams of the same level, but we'll try to pull it off."

His Napoli counterpart Rafael Benitez said the tie is of no extra significance and Garcia share his views.

"It will be a great match, but as we're only in the eighth round of the league, there's nothing at stake besides three points, " he said.

"We will always play to win, be it at home or away. We're not bothered who are the opponents in front of us. Of course, it all comes down to the match itself and we'll see what happens on the field tomorrow," he said.

All the teams in Italy have won the Scudetto after winning their first eight games of the campaign, but Garcia refused to talk about that.

"I'm not thinking about that. This is a question to try and get me talking about the Scudetto," he said.

"Let's look at La Liga: Atletico Madrid are winning eight games with no loss, yet we can't call them favourites because Barcelona has the same number of points and the Blaugrana are still the favourites, alongside Real Madrid," he said.

"We'll see further down the line - our aim could be to come down the stretch with other teams at the top of the standings at the end of the season," he said.

Why Rafael Benitez Is Under Pressure at Napoli This Season

Oct 14 2014 10:00pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

For a team we have become accustomed to seeing hovering around the top of the Serie A ladder in recent years, Napoli are off to a disappointing start to their 2014-15 campaign. Back-to-back wins in the league before the international break will have eased the pressure somewhat, as will an undefeated record in the Europa League, but the club are probably just a loss or two away from plunging into crisis. Once Serie A gets back underway, manager Rafael Benitez will be under intense scr ...

Inter and Napoli showdown gives Mazzarri and Benitez reason to sweat

Oct 14 2014 4:53am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

How quickly a fresh season full of optimism can descend into an exercise in damage limitation. It is survival, rather than expansion, that has been occupying the minds of Walter Mazzarri and Rafael Benitez during the international break from club football. The distance that Inter and Napoli are from leaders Juventus—10 and eight points respectively—is largely irrelevant, despite any suggestions to the contrary. What really matters ahead of Sunday night’s me ...

Napoli unlikely to renew Benitez’s contract

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez has not enjoyed an easy start to the current season and it looks unlikely that his contract which runs out in June of next year will be renewed in the near future. The Naples club got eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Athletic Club at the end of August and has endured a difficult start to the season as Benitez’s side are already eight points behind the league leaders Juvent ...

5 Issues Napoli Need to Work on During International Break

Oct 7 2014 8:45pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

After a shaky start to their Serie A campaign, Napoli head into the international break with the buffer of two straight league wins behind them, which should take a little of the immediate pressure off coach Rafael Benitez. Likewise, the pain of getting dumped out of the Champions League by Athletic Bilbao in the final qualifying stage will be tempered slightly by a pair of first-up wins in the Europa League. Benitez will still have p ...
