Squash: Dipika Pallikal beats former World No.1 to win Macau Open

Oct 20 2013, 10:17am CDT | by IANS

Macau, Oct 20 (IANS) India's top squash player Dipika Pallikal upstaged former World No.1 Rachael Grinham of Australia to win the Macau Open Sunday, the seventh Women's Squash Association (WSA) title of her career.

Macau, Oct 20 — India's top squash player Dipika Pallikal upstaged former World No.1 Rachael Grinham of Australia to win the Macau Open Sunday, the seventh Women's Squash Association (WSA) title of her career.

It was a commendable performance from the 22-year-old, who reached the final defeating Rachael's younger sister Natalie, a former World No.2 currently ranked eighth in the WSA rankings.

There was not much to choose between the two finalists. Dipika played better in the crucial stages of the 42-minute contest, capping off a memorable week with a 12-10, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9 victory.

"It seems all the summer training is paying off now. I trained really hard on and off the court. Beating Natalie in the semifinals gave me a lot of confidence. She is the most experienced player on the circuit," World No.17 Dipika told IANS.

Dipika, the first Indian to break into the top-10, had beaten another higher-ranked player, Kasey Brown of Australia, in a New York tournament earlier in the month.

"It is time I beat the top-10 players regularly. One of the reasons I have started beating them is Ken Way," she said of the sports psychologist, who has also worked with Dipika's coach and five-time World Open winner Sarah Fitz-Gerald.

"Ken has helped me a lot. Earlier it was frustrating to come close to beating the higher-ranked players. With his help, and Sarah of course, I am playing the mental side of the game better," said Dipika.

She now heads to Shanghai for the China Open next week.

Manny Pacquiao thinks Mayweather lost rematch with Maidana

Sep 20 2014 1:54pm CDT | Source: bad left hook

Manny Pacquiao has either gone insane or he's getting funnier. Maybe he's talking just to talk, and maybe he's trying to get under Floyd Mayweather's skin, but Manny Pacquiao says he feels that Marcos Maidana won his September 13 rematch with Mayweather, which makes for one person who possibly has any clue what they were looking at to think that's the case: "To me, Maidana won that fight. Mayweather's ...

Can anyone tell me Pacquaio's Live Gate numbers in Macau and the amount of viewers that tuned in on chinese PPV?

Sep 19 2014 5:14pm CDT | Source: reddit boxing

I have noticed one thing in boxing : Credible Information is scarce. Bob Arum keeps taking pacquaio to Macau. I know it helps with the Tax, but I'm pretty sure there are additional benefits that they stand to gain from this. A lot of people equate the success of a fight by it's American PPV value. But I think there might be a hidden gem in oacquaio's bouts at the Venetian. I heard arum plans to sell Al ...

Sep 15 2014 8:00pm CDT | Source: Bloody Elbow

During the last two decades, China has imposed rules where government approval is required for all private entities that wish to host sporting events in the country. It's a state-dominated industry, and that process includes mandatory fees for sports 'watchdogs' which they base on the company's 'i ...

Sep 2 2014 5:00pm CDT | Source: MMAmania.com

Despite the fact that Dana White is warming up to the idea of having Ben Askren fight inside the Octagon, it seems that ship may have sailed, according to "Funky's" recent comments.
