Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen could be traded before the Oct. 29 trade deadline.

Yahoo! Sports' Eric Edholm wrote on Oct. 28 that Allen has been the subject of various trade rumors with the Vikings sputtering to a 1-6 start. Edholm adds Allen may not want to be in Minnesota anymore as he is going to be a free agent.

He also expressed his disappointment with his defensive teammates after a 44-31 loss to their NFC North division rivals, the Green Bay Packers. He said,"I've never played on a defense this bad."

Team circumstances may lead to Allen getting traded, but Edholm points out it's not clear "if Allen is trying to get traded." Edholm cites VikingUpdate.com's Tim Yotter, who was able to get Allen's thoughts on the matter.

"Honestly, I'm not even going to address it. I'm not going to speculate on something that I haven't had a conversation about and I'm not going and I'm not going to speculate on something that hasn't happened. I cross all bridges when I get to them and right now I'm trying to figure out a way to make this defense better...

"You know what? It's not even something I've got to worry about right now. I got no control over that stuff. It is what it is."

Allen also spoke with Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press after the game against Green Bay. Tomasson asked the Vikings defensive end if that particular game could have been his last in a Minnesota uniform.

"We'll see. It would be a crappy way to go out, wouldn't it?

"All I'm going to say is nothing surprises me in this league. But it's not a conversation I've had...If something comes along, I'll deal with it when it happens."

ESPN's Ben Goessling wroteon Oct. 29 it make sense to trade Allen on several fronts: more cap space, more playing time for defensive end Everson Griffen and more flexibility in fixing a shoddy defense. He is on the last year of a five-year, $72 million contract.

Could Jared Allen, a five-time Pro Bowler, possibly have played his last down as a Minnesota Viking? Stay tuned.
