Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will sit out approximately two weeks to undergo oral surgery after he lost several teeth when he was on the receiving end of a high stick from Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn.

Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will sit out two weeks to undergo oral surgery.

According to Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register, Selanne lost several teeth after he got high sticked by Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn in the third period of Anaheim's 3-2 road win on Tuesday.

Schenn was jostling for puck possession with Anaheim's Emerson Etem in the corner when he inadvertently caught a trailing Selanne flush on the mouth with his stick

He needed 40 stitches to close his wounds.

Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau spoke about the unfortunate incident.

"You hate to see it. I just hate to see the whole teeth thing. Drives me nuts. It was a reckless use of the stick but what are you going to do?

"Hockey happens so fast. It was definitely not meant to hit him. But he could have had a little more control of his stick, which we're trying to get (into) the game. The players are in control of their stick. It's been called on us a couple times this year."

Selanne's incident is just the latest among a rash of injuries which has hit the Ducks. Goaltender Viktor Fasth suffered a lower body injury o Oct. 17 while forward Dustin Penner got concussed three days later.

Other Anaheim players who followed suit were Saku Koivu (hit to the head), Mathieu Perreault (wrist injury) and Jakob Silfverburg (slash).

The 43-year-old Selanne declared over the summer that the 2013-14 NHL season would be his last.

Thornton wasn’t given a chance to succeed

Sep 2 2014 12:13pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

Joe Thornton is likely not going to be captain of the San Jose Sharks when the puck drops on the 2014-15 NHL season. Many argue that Thornton being stripped of the “C” is based on more than just last season and San Jose’s epic series loss to L.A. in the playoffs. He also carries the heavy burden of being known as a playoff “choker.” A load that increases with every season, solely due to his continued inability to hoist the Stanley Cup in what is most certainly a Hall of Fame ca ...

How to Anaheim Ducks Identity Has Changed During the Offseason

Aug 13 2014 1:51pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The acquisition of Ryan Kesler during the Anaheim Ducks offseason has overshadowed what might have been a more significant shift in the team's roster. Quietly, the Ducks have lost half of their entire offensive lineup from just one year ago. After trading Dustin Penner and absorbing the retirement of Teemu Selanne, the Ducks declined to offer contracts to Saku Koivu, Mathieu Perreault and Daniel Winnik, effectively releasing them into free ag ...
