Bhullar tied 8th, eyes upset at Shanghai golf

Oct 31 2013, 5:00am CDT | by IANS

Shanghai, Oct 31 (IANS) India's Gaganjeet Bhullar is hopeful of creating an upset after he opened his campaign with a three-under-par 69 to take a share of eighth place in the $8.5 million WGC-HSBC Champions golf in Shanghai, China Thursday.

Shanghai, Oct 31 — India's Gaganjeet Bhullar is hopeful of creating an upset after he opened his campaign with a three-under-par 69 to take a share of eighth place in the $8.5 million WGC-HSBC Champions golf in Shanghai, China Thursday.

Although Bhullar trails first round leader Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland by four shots, India's sole representative at this Shanghai showpiece is confident of upstaging the star-studded field at the Sheshan International Golf Club this week.

"There's still a lot of golf left and my hopes are really high. I'm playing well and striking the ball really well and I guess anything and everything is possible over the next three days," said Bhullar.

Bhullar's confidence comes from his battling performance where he overcame a stumbling start in his opening eight holes before finding his way back into the mix with five birdies starting from the par-four nine.

"I was two-over after eight holes and I guess I was trying to figure out the green speed then," said Bhullar.

"But after that, I got really comfortable on the back-nine. I gave myself lots of birdie opportunities and I was glad I took advantage of all of them," added the Indian.

Sharing eighth place with six other players including Dustin Johnson of the United States, Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell and Asian Tour honorary member and International Ambassador Ernie Els of South Africa, Bhullar believes the gap between players from Asia and the rest of the world will be closed once they find their self belief.

"I guess the only difference between us, Asian Tour players and these other world class players lies in our mental strength. With more and more opportunities to play in the big tournaments in this part of the world, we'll definitely be on par with them very soon."

Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth compare airplane sizes

Sep 2 2014 10:52am CDT | Source: SBNation

Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth compare the sizes of their private jets, proving once again that size does matter. Rory McIlroy may have been tuckered out from his frustrating play at the Deutsche Bank Championship over the weekend but the world No. 1 had enough verve left Monday night to engage The Next Big Thing, Jordan Spieth, in a friendly "mine’s bigger than yours" contest. Seems the two rich young men could not agree on whose private ...

Sep 1 2014 7:11pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Chris Kirk?  Let's be honest. Who knew who this young man was? He turned pro in 2007, won his first tournament in 2011, his second early this year and his third tournament in the Deutsche Bank Championship.  Now he's No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings where Hunter Mahan was a week ago after his win in The Barclays. Mahan shrunk from the top, but Kirk filled the void.  Looking over the entire weekend, there were moments of brilliance from a number of ...

Revived Caroline Wozniacki Eyes 2014 US Open Title After Maria Sharapova Upset

Aug 31 2014 7:22pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

NEW YORK — We called her the Woz, a word play on the Wiz, and on a court Caroline Wozniacki certainly looked like a wiz, a winner, even if she didn’t own a Grand Slam. There wasn’t a shot she couldn’t chase down; there wasn’t a ball she couldn’t return. She was No. 1 in the women’s rankings for 67 weeks, and in 2009 she made it to the final of the U.S. Open. A loss to Kim Clijsters seemed only a blip, a hicc ...

NEW YORK — Caroline Wozniacki trusts her stamina so much that she plans to return to New York in two months to run a marathon. Aug 30 2014 6:48pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Jason Day, co-leader in the second leg of the FedEx Cup at the Deutsche Bank Championship, has toyed with golf fans long enough. We have seen him in the lead or close to it on the weekend in so many big events, most notably the majors, only to falter in the end. Will this be the tournament that puts him over the top?  Should he actually go on to win it, he will be the clear favorite to take the FedEx Cup and its whopping $10 million purse. He put himself in that position by finishing i ...

Review: The Golf Club

Aug 30 2014 3:14pm CDT | Source: middle easy

The golfing genre is in a bit of an odd place right now in the video game world. Hot Shots is going the way of the dodo. EA has dropped Tiger Woods from their franchise, and will go with the branding of simply PGA Tour for their next installment (Editor’s note: for the sake of simplicity this review will still refer to the franchise as Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour). Seriously, the biggest golf release in the video game world has been Mario Golf on the 3DS. That is up until now ...
