First, it was Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Now, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles -- a virtual unknown to many -- threw seven touchdown passes in the Eagles' 49-20 road win over the Oakland Raiders.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles threw for seven touchdowns in the Eagles' 49-20 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, tying an NFL record.

Foles matched Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's seven touchdown passes on Opening Day against the defending Super Bowl champions Baltimore Ravens o Sept .6. Foles' last touchdown pass of the game -- a five-yard pass to Riley Cooper -- came with 4:28 left in the third quarter.

All in all, the Eagles' second-year quarterback went 22 of 28 for 406 yards. He also tied an Eagles team record which was first set by Adrian Burk against the Washington Redskins in 1954.

What's even more remarkable is that Foles joins Manning and former New York Giants quarterback Y.A. Tittle as the only men to pull off the feat without throwing a single interception.

Most of Foles' throws were to Cooper, who, by virtue of his quarterback's historic feat, enjoyed a career day of his own with three touchdown receptions for 139 yards. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson also had a great day, finishing with one touchdown courtesy of Foles and 150 yards.

The other Eagles who caught Foles' touchdown passes were LeSean McCoy, Zach Ertz and Brent Celek.

Foles' re-writing of the record books happens a week after he missed last week's game against the New York Giants after he sustained a concussion a week before against another NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys.

In that game, was just 11 of 29 for 80 yards, a sharp contrast to his performance against the Raiders.

Foles didn't get a chance to throw for an eighth touchdown pass as he was replaced by Matt Barkley in the fourth quarter.

Sports Illustrated Made All the NFC Quarterbacks Look Weird and Awkward

Aug 27 2014 10:04am CDT | Source: The Big Lead

Sports Illustrated has four regional covers for its 2014 NFL preview issue. Each features a different quarterback duo. The east coast gets Tony Romo and Nick Foles, the midwest gets Jay Cutler and Matthew Stafford, the south gets Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, and the west coast gets Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson. It seems the main theme is “gunslingers in the NFC.” That’s all fine, but what the heck is up with all these pictures? They might as well have photoshoppe ...

Vick ‘okay’ with how Eagles career ended

Aug 25 2014 5:45pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Michael Vick remembers taking the drive to Philadelphia to restart his NFL career — and loathing every minute of the ride. He was getting a second chance after serving nearly two years in prison for his role in a dogfighting ring. But Vick wasn’t sure if the Eagles were the right fit. What if, he thought, after all this time away from football, he was making a huge mistake? "I’ll never forget," Vick recalled M ...

Vick ‘okay’ with how Eagles career ended

Aug 25 2014 5:45pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Michael Vick says he is "absolutely" OK with how things transpired in Philadelphia last season, when he lost his starting job to Nick Foles after being injured. Vick, now the backup to Geno Smith with the New York Jets, says Monday that he never wants "to play second fiddle to anybody," but didn’t want to become a distraction as the Eagles got into a groove with Foles as the quarterback. Vick, who signed with New York in March, is expected to ...

NFL Rumors: Latest on Quarterbacks Who Could Be Traded Before Start of Season

Aug 25 2014 4:15pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Going into an NFL season with an unsettled quarterback situation is a scary proposition. This could cause some notable moves before Week 1. It is hard to imagine a player switching teams, learning a playbook and being able to become a starter before the start of the season. However, a number of teams are in desperate need of depth at the position and might be willing to pay top dollar for a quality contri ...

Why Zach Ertz Is Philadelphia Eagles' Biggest X-Factor in 2014

Aug 24 2014 1:11pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Chip Kelly’s offseason decision to release DeSean Jackson was easily the most controversial move the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach made this offseason. After all, Jackson wasn’t just a good player; his breakaway speed led to career-bests of 82 receptions and 1,332 yards, opening up underneath routes for Riley Cooper, LeSean McCoy and the tight ends. Jackson’s departure places an inordinate amount of pressure on third-year quarterback Nick Foles to prove the 2013 sea ...
