The Chicago Blackhawks have re-acquired forward Kris Versteeg in a trade with the Florida Panthers

In addition to Versteeg, Chicago also obtained the services of forward Phillippe Lefebrve in a trade with the Florida Panthers for forward Jimmy Hayes and defenseman Dylan Olsen. Lefebrve will "report directly to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL," per the Blackhawks' official website

Blackhawks vice president and general manager Stan Bowman spoke with Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune and said the team felt it needed another versatile forward.

"Looking at our team this year, we're off to a really good start. We came out of the gates the way we wanted to but we're always trying to improve. Looking at our team we felt adding one more versatile forward to our group (was necessary)."

Bowman is definitely excited to bring back Versteeg, who played for the Blackhawks 2010 Stanley Cup championship team. Bowman emphasized Versteeg's familiarity with the system and the depth he should be able to provide.

"We are excited to bring Kris back to Chicago and are pleased to add a player with his experience and versatility to our lineup. Kris is well-respected within our organization and will be able to make a seamless transition to our team because of his familiarity with many of our players and with Coach Quenneville. This move strengthens our team depth and Kris' skill is a great complement to our current roster."

The 27-year-old Versteeg was originally drafted 134th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He was traded to the Blackhawks on Feb. 3, 2007.

He recorded two goals and five assists for seven points in 18 games for the Panthers this season.
