The Toronto Raptors have reportedly dealt forward Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player trade.

Toronto Raptors forward Rudy Gay is reportedly on his way to the Sacramento Kings.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports offers more details in his Dec. 8 report:

"The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to send Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

"The Kings will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes to the Raptors. The Kings also acquire Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray in the deal, sources said.

"The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process."

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star writes the move would be Raptors general manager Masai Uriji's "boldest" and "most significant." He also emphasizes Uriji placing more concern on the franchise's long-term status rather than immediate gratification.

Smith says the impending departure of Gay would free up $38 million in cap space for the next two seasons. It also addresses a logjam at small forward with DeMar DeRozan.

The departures of Gay and forward-center Andrea Bargnani means the Raptors "would have cleared more than $20 million off their books for next season," per Brian Windhorst and Chris Boussard of ESPN.

On the part of the Kings, Vasquez's trade to Toronto would mean Isaiah Thomas moving to the starting point guard spot. This is also the second major trade the team has been involved in in the last two weeks.

On Nov. 26, Sacramento traded defensive specialist Luc Richard Mbah a Moute to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Derrick Williams, who had seen his playing time dwindle after the return of star forward Kevin Love.

Prior to the seven-player trade, Gay had been averaging 19.4 points, good for second on the team. However, he was shooting at a 39-percent clip -- the lowest of his NBA career.

"The Kings plan to use Gay at the stretch-four position," Wojnarowski notes.

DeMarcus Cousins to Coach: Leave Teammates in 'Another Minute to Build Trust'

Nov 4 2014 1:38pm CST | Source: Bleacher Report

DENVER — DeMarcus Cousins has undergone quite the transformation during the last few months.  Even during the 2013-14 season with the Sacramento Kings, he was operating with a short fuse, prone to checking out of a game after a call didn't go his way. Not only did he pile up technical fouls (a league-high 16, in fact), but he didn't do much to shatter the public perception that he could derail his ...

Vince Carter is Still Half-Man, Half-Amazing

Nov 4 2014 12:45pm CST | Source: The Big Lead

Vince Carter will be 38-years old in January. After three seasons in Dallas, Memphis brought him in to provide some scoring off the bench. He hasn’t had to do much yet, playing just 15 minutes a night for the undefeated Grizzlies. I guess that says more about the efficiency of Memphis than the skill level of Vince Carter because just look at this play. He goes by Tyreke Evans – who was 10-years old when Vincanity won the Dunk Conte ...

Are the Sacramento Kings for Real or Just Hot at Season's Start?

Nov 4 2014 11:35am CST | Source: Bleacher Report

Three and four games into the NBA's regular season, every performance, good and bad, collective and individual, comes with an asterisk. The Sacramento Kings are, as of now, the league's biggest asterisk. Four games into their 2014-15 campaign, the Kings are 3-1, tied with the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks for the Association's second-highest winning percentage.  Important: This is not a joke. Eq ...

DeMarcus Cousins, Kenneth Faried and Rudy Gay Combine for Elusive Triple Flop

Nov 4 2014 9:33am CST | Source: Bleacher Report

Like a triad of world-class synchronized swimmers, three professional basketball players came together Monday night and elevated the act of falling to an art form.  The beautiful moment occurred on the floor of the Pepsi Center as the Sacramento Kings took on the Denver Nuggets. NBA scores 2014: Fear the Southwest Division and 3 other things we learned Monday night

Nov 4 2014 7:00am CST | Source: SBNation

The Texas trio have been tough for much of the past decade, but Memphis continues to their defensive prowess and now New Orleans is an emerging power. Plus, three other things we learned Saturday night. The best division in basketball is the Southwest, and Monday night in the NBA made that even more clear. Early in the season, the trio of Texas teams, New Orleans and Memphis have combined to go 13-4 with just one of those losses coming ...

Kenneth Faried, DeMarcus Cousins, and Rudy Gay execute the triple flop

Nov 4 2014 12:15am CST | Source: SBNation

This isn't *actually* three players flopping at the same time. It appears to be some sort of interpretative dance. But we couldn't figure out what else to call it. This is hypnotic, and we can't stop watching it. At the exact same instant in time, Kenneth Faried, DeMarcus Cousins, and Rudy Gay flail their arms wildly into the air, and we can't figure out why. Did an acting instructor tell the ...

We really, really don’t want to believe that this is the first recorded triple flop in history of the NBA. But after careful consideration and an initial inclination to judge it otherwise, we couldn’t come to any other other conclusion – Kenneth Faried, Rudy Gay, and DeMarcus Cousins all flopped simultaneously in Monday night’s matchup between […] The post Video: Is This A Triple Flop By Kenneth Faried, Rudy Gay, And DeMarcus Cousin ...

3 reasons the Kings are this season's Suns

Nov 3 2014 9:20am CST | Source: SBNation

And one very big reason they are not. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the NBA season to date is that the Sacramento Kings are 2-1 against a brutal schedule. The Kings lost to the Warriors at home on opening night, then bounced the Blazers and on Sunday waltzed into L.A. and beat the Clippers. The Kings won just 28 games last season, had a poorly-reviewed offseason and ... just beat two 50-win teams back to back. The popular thing to say about any team is that they ...
