The Toronto Raptors have reportedly dealt forward Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player trade.

Toronto Raptors forward Rudy Gay is reportedly on his way to the Sacramento Kings.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports offers more details in his Dec. 8 report:

"The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to send Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

"The Kings will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes to the Raptors. The Kings also acquire Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray in the deal, sources said.

"The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process."

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star writes the move would be Raptors general manager Masai Uriji's "boldest" and "most significant." He also emphasizes Uriji placing more concern on the franchise's long-term status rather than immediate gratification.

Smith says the impending departure of Gay would free up $38 million in cap space for the next two seasons. It also addresses a logjam at small forward with DeMar DeRozan.

The departures of Gay and forward-center Andrea Bargnani means the Raptors "would have cleared more than $20 million off their books for next season," per Brian Windhorst and Chris Boussard of ESPN.

On the part of the Kings, Vasquez's trade to Toronto would mean Isaiah Thomas moving to the starting point guard spot. This is also the second major trade the team has been involved in in the last two weeks.

On Nov. 26, Sacramento traded defensive specialist Luc Richard Mbah a Moute to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Derrick Williams, who had seen his playing time dwindle after the return of star forward Kevin Love.

Prior to the seven-player trade, Gay had been averaging 19.4 points, good for second on the team. However, he was shooting at a 39-percent clip -- the lowest of his NBA career.

"The Kings plan to use Gay at the stretch-four position," Wojnarowski notes.

Breaking Down Toronto Raptors' Power Forward Position for 2014-15 Season

Sep 18 2014 3:18am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

By re-signing Patrick Patterson and picking up the 2014-15 option on Tyler Hansbrough, the Raptors have maintained their depth at power forward and provided insurance for Amir Johnson should he miss any games next season.  The emergence of Patterson off the bench as a viable option in a post-Rudy Gay world gave head coach Dwane Casey peace of mind should anything have happened to his 27-year-old starter. Hansbrough provided the physical play around the basket while Patterson was more ...

Irving leads U.S. in repeat as world champions

Sep 14 2014 3:59pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

MADRID, Spain — Kyrie Irving made all six 3-pointers and scored 26 points, and the U.S. repeated as world champion for the first time by crushing Serbia 129-92 on Sunday in the Basketball World Cup. James Harden added 23 for the Americans, who made 11 of 16 3-pointers in a sensational-shooting first half, adding one final romp to a tournament full of them. This depleted team that was supposedly weak enough to lose was too good to be touched. The A ...

Sep 13 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The gold-medal game in the FIBA World Cup was supposed to be Spain vs. Team USA, but France knocked off the Spaniards in the quarterfinals. Perhaps the French had used all of their energy to upset Spain, because they fell to Serbia in the semifinals 90-85. All while the other side of the bracket was filled with upsets and unexpected finishes, the Americans have continued to chug along. That's precisely what they will do on Sunday during t ...

DeMarcus Cousins scared the living daylights out of Jonas Valanciunas

Sep 11 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: SBNation

DeMarcus Cousins didn't fight Jonas Valanciunas for elbowing him in the throat, but for a millisecond there, it looked like Boogie might be about to get down. The United States is getting arguably its toughest test of the FIBA World Cup in Lithuania, as they only lead by eight at the half. And for the first time all tournament, DeMarcus Cousins' temper flared. It flared exactly enough for Jonas Valanciunas to fear for his own life: This stopped before anything ...

Sep 11 2014 3:57am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Entering his third season in the NBA, Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors will look to become the consistent presence on both the offensive and defensive end that fans, coaches and players alike know he's capable of being.  What we've seen through his rookie and sophomore years is a player whose stock fluctuates more times than the price of gold. You'll see flashes of brilliance sprinkled here and there, but you ...

Why Toronto Raptors Belong in the NBA Championship Conversation

Sep 9 2014 4:34pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Toronto Raptors surprised everyone last season, including themselves. Last December, they dove head-first into a fire sale. By April, they were somehow setting a franchise record with their 48th victory and putting an end to their five-year playoff drought. It was one of those must-see-it-to-believe-it performances—only those who had witnessed still weren't sure what had transpired. "Before a dramatic reversal of a season, Toronto had been a meddling, mediocre group, ...
