The Toronto Raptors have reportedly dealt forward Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player trade.

Toronto Raptors forward Rudy Gay is reportedly on his way to the Sacramento Kings.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports offers more details in his Dec. 8 report:

"The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to send Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

"The Kings will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes to the Raptors. The Kings also acquire Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray in the deal, sources said.

"The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process."

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star writes the move would be Raptors general manager Masai Uriji's "boldest" and "most significant." He also emphasizes Uriji placing more concern on the franchise's long-term status rather than immediate gratification.

Smith says the impending departure of Gay would free up $38 million in cap space for the next two seasons. It also addresses a logjam at small forward with DeMar DeRozan.

The departures of Gay and forward-center Andrea Bargnani means the Raptors "would have cleared more than $20 million off their books for next season," per Brian Windhorst and Chris Boussard of ESPN.

On the part of the Kings, Vasquez's trade to Toronto would mean Isaiah Thomas moving to the starting point guard spot. This is also the second major trade the team has been involved in in the last two weeks.

On Nov. 26, Sacramento traded defensive specialist Luc Richard Mbah a Moute to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Derrick Williams, who had seen his playing time dwindle after the return of star forward Kevin Love.

Prior to the seven-player trade, Gay had been averaging 19.4 points, good for second on the team. However, he was shooting at a 39-percent clip -- the lowest of his NBA career.

"The Kings plan to use Gay at the stretch-four position," Wojnarowski notes.

As he should, The King is in control. July 11, when LeBron James returned to Cleveland, was just the beginning. After all, James put ink to paper on just a two-year agreement with a player option on the final year, as if to say loud and clear that ...

Josh Smith Trade Makes No Sense for Rebuilding Sacramento Kings

Jul 17 2014 10:04am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Trapped in an eight-year playoff drought, the Sacramento Kings have a reason to feel restless. However, sleepless nights should not be driving front-office decisions. Not when they lead a clearly rebuilding club to chase "win-now" assistance in the form of Josh Smith, his unsavory shot selection and the three years and $40.5 million remaining on his deal, at least. Fresh off a disastrous debut season with the Detroit Pistons during w ...

How Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo Can Thrive with Bucks

Jul 17 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo will both start for the Milwaukee Bucks on opening night next season, and if all goes well, the next 10 opening nights after that. Parker is 6'8" and 19 years old. Antetokounmpo—forever referred to as "the Greek Freak"—is 6'9" and also 19. And so, Milwaukee will build its foundation at two increasingly important and interchangeable positions: power forward and small forward. But ...
