According to a Dec. 8 Associated Press report, Nix was able to find an agent and "will forego his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft." Many league experts project Nix to be a first-round draft pick.
To confirm that he's not coming back to Notre Dame anymore, Nix uploaded an Instagram photo "taken from a car pulling away from Notre Dame with the Golden Dome reflected in the side driver's side mirror," per ESPN.
The photo was featured in Josh Sanchez's piece for FanSided.com and can be seen here.
When asked to comment on Nix's move, Irish head coach Brian Kelly said,"The rest of those (decisions), you're splitting hairs. We'll find out, because you're taking a gamble no matter what."
Nix played his last game for the Irish on Nov. 21 when he had surgery "to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee," according to the Associated Press report.
On that day, Nix said of Notre Dame,"This is a great place. It's a great university. It's done a lot for my life. I feel like if I did come back it would do numerous things for me and help me out. There's a lot of choices on both sides."
The 22-year-old nose tackle, who calls himself "Irish Chocolate," is a Film and Television and Theatre major who took 19 hours of classes this semester so he can earn his degree.
Nix is a Jacksonville, Fla. native who recorded 27 tackles in his senior season at Notre Dame.
