The San Francisco 49ers have signed offensive lineman Ryan Seymour to a three-year deal

According to the 49ers' official website, Seymour's signing was brought about by placing defensive tackle Tank Carradine on the Injured Reserve List. San Francisco plucked Seymour from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad and then offered him the three-year contract.

Carradine , who was drafted out of Florida State University 40th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, had been on the Reserve/NFI List since the beginning of the season before being reactivated by the 49ers on Oct. 29. He "has been inactive for every game since that time," the update goes on to say.

Carradine, who tore his ACL in 2012, was placed in that status because "The 49ers wanted to give him more time to rehabilitate and make sure he was fully healthy for the 2014 offseason program," per Eric Branch of SFGate. com.

Branch also spoke with 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Nov. 22 to get an update on Carradine's status. Fangio said,"He's still working hard to get into football shape, get over his injury, get acclimated to our system."

On the other hand, Rick Eymer of The Associated Press wrote on Dec. 10 that Seymour was taken aback when his agent rang him up on Monday morning to inform him he had been called up by the 49ers.

Seymour quipped,"I wasn't expecting, this late in the season, to be called up by a team. I'll certainly take advantage of my opportunities."

The 6'4", 301-pound Seymour was drafted by the Seahawks in the seventh round (220th overall) of this year's draft out of Vanderbilt University, where he "earned SEC Academic Roll Honors in 2011 and 2012, and was also selected to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2009," according to the 49ers' official website.

He becomes the ninth rookie in the San Francisco lineup and will play behind starter Mike Iupati and backup Joe Looney at left guard, Eymer notes.

The 49ers also signed wide receiver Devon Wylie, a fourth-round selection of the Kansas City Chiefs last year, to their practice squad, per Christian Gin of The San Francisco Examiner.

San Francisco is currently second in the NFC West with a 9-4 record. The team will travel to Western Florida on Dec. 15 to take on the 4-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
