British Athletics See Gold with OSU & Beynon Sports

Corvallis, OR, January 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- 187 days might seem far away, but for the athletes competing in the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, it is right around the corner. British Athletics announced last week that they have chosen Oregon State University as their training grounds for the upcoming competition. “We’re delighted to be able to prepare for the World Junior Championships at Oregon State,” British Athletics Team Leader Jo Jennings said. “Having visited the campus, I was very impressed with the excellent facilities and the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the staff. For the first time in history, this prestigious event will be hosted on American soil at the world renowned Hayward Field. It seems only fitting that this competition makes its first U.S appearance at the prestigious track dubbed Track Town USA. Over the past 5 years the U.S has dominated this event, claiming over 80 medals of which more than half were Gold. Alongside an impressive medal collection, they have finished 1st overall three times in the last 5 years. 2014 will mark the first time they win a medal in front of a hometown crowd.

British Athletics will be training on Oregon State University’s track for a one week period a few days prior to the start of competition. “We are excited and honored to host British Athletics before the World Junior Championships,” Oregon State track and field head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “It speaks volumes of the high caliber of our facilities and would not have been possible without the collaboration of a number of entities across campus. Hosting the training camp in Corvallis also provides great exposure for Oregon State University as well as our track and field program and is a fantastic opportunity for the community to observe and engage with world-class athletes and coaches.” (01/07/2014, Athletic Communications, www.osubeavers.com) Ranking 8th overall on the all-time medal table, Great-Britain hopes to build on last year’s five medal performance and leave Hayward Field with strong results.
