Eli the ape, an orangutan from Utah who has correctly predicted six of the last six Super Bowl winners, chose the Seattle Seahawks for Super Bowl XLVIII.

Eli the ape, an orangutan from Utah, predicts the Seattle Seahawks will win Super Bowl XLVIII.

This bodes well for the Seahawks as he has correctly predicted the last six Super Bowl winners, per The Associated Press:

"A Utah ape that has correctly picked the Super Bowl winner for six straight years predicted Thursday that the Seattle Seahawks will be the next NFL champion.

"Eli the ape ran into an enclosure Thursday morning and swiftly knocked down a papier-mache helmet bearing the Seahawks logo, signaling his pick, said Erica Hansen of Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City.

"'He made his pick without any hesitation,' Hansen said.

"That could mean bad news for Broncos fans. The 13-year-old primate hasn't been wrong since 2006.

"Last year, Eli charged out and knocked over a papier-mache goal post decorated with the Ravens logo. Sure enough, the Ravens beat the 49ers 34-31."

The official Facebook page of Utah's Hogle Zoo posted an update about Eli's Super Bowl prediction on Jan. 30:

"ELI CHOSE SEATTLE!

"Orangutan, Eli, has been correct six out of six times in predicting the winner of the Super Bowl.

"This morning, without hesitation, Eli knocked over the Seattle Seahawks helmet."

Eli the ape is not the only animal who is noted for his ability to predict big sporting events.

According to the UK's Sky News, A New Jersey camel also rose to prominence for her prowess to pick Super Bowl winners. However, she was euthanized after suffering through arthritis which did not make it possible for her to stand.

Four years ago, Paul The Octopus "correctly 'predicted' who would win every match Germany played, as well as Spain's win over the Netherlands in the final" of the World Cup, per Sky Sports.

As for Eli, his prediction "drew mixed reactions from his team of zookeepers," some of whom are Broncos fans, The Associated Press report adds.

Eli promptly joined his family, mate Eve and daughter Acara, to smash and play with the remnants of the papier-mache helmets after his prediction.

Hansen reveals Eli's popularity has soared as the years have gone by because of his spotless Super Bowl prediction record since 2006.

Super Bowl XLVIII between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will be at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Feb. 2 with a 6:25 p.m ET kickoff.
