Aircraft manufacturer Boeing assembled a Seahawks 747-8 jumbo jet which flew over Washington State on Jan. 30 in support of the team's Super Bowl XLVIII title aspirations.

Boeing has assembled a Seahawks 747-8 jumbo jet dedicated to Seattle's NFL team, which is one of the protagonists in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Seahawks' official website issued a press release about the development on Jan. 29:

"Boeing (NYSE:BA) today revealed a 747-8 freighter painted in the livery of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The livery commemorates the team's National Football Conference Championship and upcoming appearance in Super Bowl XLVIII.

"Boeing is a sponsor of the Seattle Seahawks and has partnered with the team for more than a decade on programs in the Puget Sound area.

"This 747-8 is owned by Boeing and currently being used for flight testing. The special livery features the distinctive Seahawks logo and a '12' on the tail to salute the team's fans. The airplane will make its first flight in its new livery on Thurs., Jan. 30."

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner said the collaboration between the Seahawks and 747 serves as a fitting tribute for a job well done from the Boeing team.

"The Seahawks have been an inspiration to our entire community throughout this incredible season. We're honored that we could join together two Northwest icons, the Seahawks and the 747, for this special salute from the entire Boeing team."

On the other hand, the aircraft's official Boeing website has an introduction about this new mechanical marvel

"The Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl, and this has the city of Seattle more excited than anything else in recent memory. Walk around this city right now and you will see locals everywhere showing much love for our cherished Seahawks.

"We at Boeing were looking for a unique way to show our love and pride in our hometown team, and what better way to do that than to paint a new 747-8 freighter in a special Seahawks livery to commemorate this truly special moment in time."

It also listed some fun facts about the 747-8.

  • "It would take 144 747-8 passenger airplanes (Intercontinentals) to carry all the Seahawks fans in CenturyLink Field (67,000 seats)."
  • "Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch can squat with 16 economy seats (30 lbs. per seat)."
  • "A 747-8 freighter can carry 121 million Skittles candies or 302,400 one-lb. bags."
  • "Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wison's longest pass this season, 80 yards (240 ft.), was almost the same length as a 747-8 fuselage (243.5 ft.)."
Barry Petchesky of Deadspin reports on Jan. 30 the aircraft took to the skies, "tracing a massive '12' over the skies of Washington as we speak."
Petchesky even uploaded a link of the flight tracker on FlightAware.com, where the "12" he was speaking about can be clearly seen within the confines of Washington State.
The Seahawks fill face the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Feb. 2 with a 6:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
