On Jan. 30, the NBA announced the reserves for the 2014 All-Star Game on Feb. 16 in New Orleans, La.

The NBA has announced the reserves for the 2014 All-Star Game in New Orleans, La.

The league issued an official press release about the development on Jan. 30:

"Three first-time All-Stars join (Miami Heat forward-center Chris) Bosh as reserves in the East: DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors), Paul Millsap (Atlanta Hawks) and John Wall (Washington Wizards).

"The Brooklyn Nets' Joe Johnson earns his seventh selection, while the Indiana Pacers' Roy Hibbert and the Chicago Bulls' Joakim Noah are All-Stars for the second time in their careers.

"Joining (Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk) Nowitzki as reserves in the West are LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers), James Harden (Houston Rockets), Dwight Howard (Rockets), Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs), and Chris Paul (L.A. Clippers).

"It's the eighth selection for Howard, in his first season with the Rockets, while teammate Harden earns his second straight trip to the All-Star Game. Paul garners his seventh All-Star nod, while Parker is an All-Star for the sixth time in his career. Aldrige captures his third All-Star berth, while teammate Lillard is the lone first-time All-Star among West reserves."

These 14 reseves were selected by the NBA's 30 head coaches. Each of them were asked to vote for seven players from their own conference --"two guards, three frontcourt players and two players regardless of position," per the NBA.com update

The coaches were not allowed to vote for players coming from their own teams.

The starters for each squad were chosen by the fans via the NBA All-Star Balloting 2014. For the East, it will be guard Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers, guard Dwyane Wade of the Heat, forward LeBron James of the Heat, forward Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and forward Paul George of the Indiana Pacers.

For the West, the starters are Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Blake Griffin of the Clippers and Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves

Should any All-Star not be able to play in the game, the commissioner is tasked to assign a replacement for him. If that player is a stater, the head coach will be the one to determine who replaces hilm in the starting lineup.

This is the case for Bryant, "who is ruled out of the game because of a knee injury," notes USA Today Sports. Here, commissioner David J. Stern will seek out a replacement for Bryant while the Western Conference All-Stars head coach, Scott Brooks of the Thunder, will have to find somebody else in his lineup to start in Bryant's place.

Brooks' counterpart on the East bench will be Frank Vogel of the Pacers.

ESPN interviewed Noah, who said making the All-Star team was not a priority for him, but a remarkable achievement nonetheless.

"I'm just happy. I'm honored to be selected to play in the All-Star Game, play against the best players in the world. It's very humbling. I'm happy the hard work is paying off. Even though it's not my priority, it's still a pretty good achievement. I'm proud of it."

Wall, the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft, said,"I am very proud to represent the Wizards franchise and the city of Washington as an All-Star and to share this honor with the fans who have supported me and stuck by me since I arrived here."

Nowtizki also felt the same in terms of representing Dallas, per ESPN.

"I have been a part of All-Star weekend every year since I have been in the league and not being there last year felt strange. The Dallas fan base has always been great to me and the Mavericks organization and the city deserve to be represented at the All-Star Game."

The 2014 NBA All-Star Game will be on Feb. 16 at New Orleans Arena with a 9 p.m. ET tip-off. The Eastern Conference leads the all-time series 36-26 through the 2012-2013 NBA season.
