The Cleveland Indians agreed to extend outfielder Michael Brantley's contract for four years and $25 million with an $11 million option for a fifth year, per multiple reports.

The Cleveland Indians and outfielder Michael Brantley have agreed on a four-year contract extension.

According to Jordan Bastian of the Indians' official website, the deal is worth $25 million with an $11 million option for 2018:

"The Indians are hoping to turn last season's run to the postseason into multiple years of contention. Cleveland made it clear on Monday night it believes outfielder Michael Brantley is a key to making that happen.

"MLB.com has confirmed that the Indians have reached an agreement with Brantley on a four-year contract worth $25 million in guaranteed salary. The deal, which was first reported by the Northeast Ohio Media Group, also includes a club option valued at $11 million for 2008.

"The agreement covers all three years of Brantley's arbitration eligibility and one year of free agency. If exercised, the option for 2018 will keep the left fielder off the open market two years beyond his original eligibility.

"Brantley was eligible for arbitration for the first time this offseason, but his Feb. 17 hearing will no longer be needed.

"All that awaits Brantley now is a news conference to officially announce the signing."

Brantley's extension was also confirmed by ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, citing an MLB source.

On the other hand, Zack Meisel of The Northeast Ohio Media Group notes Cleveland had been trying to work out extensions with Brantley and second baseman Jason Kipnis.

"The Indians had conversations about extensions with both Brantley and second baseman Jason Kipnis last year. Kipnis said he hoped the two sides could work something about before the start of the season and that he would end talks once the season commenced.

"Brantley could not become a free agent until after the 2016 campaign. The Indians would be essentially buying out his three arbitration years and one -- or two -- free agent years. The Bellevue, Wa. native earned $526,900 least season."

Bastian also stresses Brantley's deal includes a $3.5 million signing bonus that will be disbursed during the years stipulated in the contract, citing CBSSports.com. His salary from 2014-17 are as follows: $1.5 million, $5 million, $6.5 million and $7.5 million.

The club option for the fifth year has a $1 million buyout.

The 26-year-old Brantley posted a .284 batting average and hit 10 home runs and recorded 73 RBIs in 2013, a season which saw the Indians win 24 more games from the previous year (68 to 92).

The Indians outfielder was insturmental during that surge, posting career highs in games played (151), at-bats (556), home runs, RBIs and stolen bases (17).
